Warning! Contains spoilers for Wolverine #2Wolverinehas always been a force to be reckoned with, as theX-Men’sresident berserker, and at times it seems there is no end to the adamantium-clawed hero’s abilities. Now, Wolverine’s solo series just revealedhe can alter his heartbeat so drastically that bio-trackers can’t register that he is alive. Wolverine’s revealed ability fits him incredibly well and works perfectly with the character growth the Wolverine series establishes.
In a preview ofWolverine #2– written by Saladin Ahmed, with art by Marín Cóccolo – Wolverine retreats to the wilderness seeking an escape from the mutant-hating world, but trouble finds him when he’s tracked down by his old commander, Cyber, who’s hellbent on killing him. Wolverine is also followed by Department H, a government agency for tracking Mutants, after being framed for Cyber’s murders.

Instead of fighting, Wolverine slows his heart to become undetectable to the agents. I was beyond thrilled to see Wolverine return to his roots and witness how his newly disclosed power alludes to his lesser-known abilities.
I Love How Wolverine’s New Power Calls Back To His Long Forgotten Abilities & Secret Agent Years
Wolverine#2– Written By Saladin Ahmed; Art By Marín Cóccolo; Color By Brian Valenza, Lettering By Cory Petit
One thing I’d never do is underestimate Wolverine’s elite fighting tactics; Wolverine is over two-hundred-years old and has lifetimes of experience from his time as an X-Men, a secret agent, and a soldier. InWolverine#2, he even mentions Canada’s Department H is part of the reason he has adamantium grafted to his skeleton and claws. I could see Wolverine’s ability to slow his down his heartbeing a skill he learned while in the army or a necessary ability he picked up on dangerous missions.
Marvel Just Fixed Wolverine’s Inconsistent Healing Factor with Half a Sentence
One of Wolverine’s most iconic powers has always been his healing factor, and now Marvel finally fixed how inconsistent it is with a single line.
We all know about Wolverine’s incredible healing factor, but his capability to slow down his heart calls back to his lesser-known ability ofbeing undetectable to humans or technology. In the storyline, “The Fall of the Mutants” by Chris Claremont,Wolverine and the X-Men are resurrected after dying to save the world, and with their resurrection came the undead ability to be invisible to most humans and technology once out of sight. It makes sense to me how Wolverine’s elite combat abilities mixed with his ghost-like powers would be a deadly combination.

Marvel’s New Wolverine Series Is Leaning Into Wolverine’s Animalistic Qualities – And I Think It’s The Right Move
Wolverine#1-Available Now From Marvel Comics
I noticed the series draws many parallels between Wolverine and that of a wild animal which is a consistent aspect of Wolverine’s personality throughout his many years of characterization.Wolverine’s power of slowing his breath is akin to an animal who is being hunted, which makes considerable sense, given his current predicament inWolverine#2. Wolverine often goes into the wilderness to clear his head after a traumatic experience, but often times whenWolverine goes into the wildit leads him to go feral.
“My Power Isn’t Just Healing”: Wolverine Reveals a Wild Extra Power That Makes Him Deadlier When Injured
Wolverine is able to recover from practically any injury, but one of his lesser known powers is what makes him one of Marvel’s fiercest combatants.
I’ll never forget the brutal moment Magneto pulled out Wolverine’s adamantium which led to the events of “Fatal Attractions," where Wolverine quits the X-Men to retreat into the woods and adopt a more untamed personality. The series retreadsmany aspects of “Fatal Attractions”, with Wolverine going into the woods to clear his head from thetragic loss of Krakoaand the controversial actions of Charles Xavier. This time, however, it seems Wolverine is heading towards a positive path and his ability to keep a level head enough to control his breathing proves this.

Wolverine’s “Heartstopping” Power Confirms He Has Immeasurable Discipline
And Always More Tricks Up His Sleeve
I found Wolverine’s return to a more feral state both nostalgic and exciting, especially with the prospect of his recently unveiled power. InWolverine #1, Wolverine was initially giving in to his feral nature, but he now seems to be more in control than ever thanks to Nightcrawler’s intervention and his fight with Cyber. Instead of attacking a large group of soldiers trained to kill him, he instead chooses to lower his heartbeat and keep an eye on the group from a distance.
Wolverine’s new power is a welcome inclusion that fits perfectly with the rest of his lore. I can only hope Wolverine’s incredibly impressive new ability is further explored, and plays a bigger part in his solo journey.

While hunting Wolverine, Cyber calls him a wild animal, one who refuses discipline, but after seeing Wolverine’s efforts in this issue, I believe the villain couldn’t be more wrong about the adamantium-clawed X-Men. Considering all the skillsWolverine acquired in his time as a soldier, his time in the wilderness, andhis history as an X-Man,Wolverine’s new power is a welcome inclusionthat fits perfectly with the rest of his lore. I can only hope Wolverine’s incredibly impressive new ability is further explored, and plays a bigger part in his solo journey.
Wolverine #2will be available July 03, 2025 from Marvel Comics!
Wolverine
The human mutant Wolverine (a.k.a. Logan) was born James Howlett, blessed with a superhuman healing factor, senses, and physiology. Subjecting himself to experimentation to augment his skeleton and claws with adamantium, Logan is as deadly as he is reckless, impulsive, and short-tempered. Making him the X-Men’s wildest and deadliest member, and one of Marvel Comics' biggest stars. He’s played in Fox and Marvel’s movie franchises by Hugh Jackman.
