Robert Pattinson addresses what’s going on with Matt Reeves’The Batmanuniverse, and comments on the significant length of time between the first movie andThe Batman - Part II, which will release in 2026. While theDCElseworlds brand is going strong with Reeves’The Batmanuniverse, especially afterThe Penguinspinoff show, things are still moving slowly forThe Batman - Part II, with the script still being written. However, with a release date set for October 2026, it begs the question if things will be ready by the time principal photography needs to begin.

During a new interview withThe New York Times, the profile piece touched upon Pattinson’s chapter withThe Batmanfranchise ahead ofThe Batman - Part IIstarting filming in 2025. While discussing the sequel’s 2026 release and the fact that a third film is planned, Pattinson stated,“I could genuinely be retiring by the end of them.”The statement seems to be more of a cheeky comment on how long each film takes from development to release than an actual update on his DC movie future.

What Robert Pattinson’s Comments About The Batman Trilogy Means

At the time of this article’s publication,Pattinson is 38 years old, turning 39 on June 10, 2025, meaning he is still very much in his prime for his acting career and likely still will be when the series completes. WhileThe Batman 3has not been officially greenlit yet, the assumption is that ifThe Batman - Part IIis a success, a third movie is bound to go forward at DC Studios. But even ifThe Batman 3were to come out by 2028 or 2030, Pattinson would still be in his early 40s, which would make retiring from his acting career way too premature.

The only way Pattinson would walk away from acting is if he decided to pursue a different profession altogether, which is why his comments should only be looked at as a joke. It does highlight, however, how long it is taking forThe Batman - Part IIstoryto come together before filming can get underway. By the time the sequel arrives in theaters, it will have been four years sinceThe Batmanwas first released, which is a long wait for a sequel in general.

Our Take On Robert Pattinson’s Comments About The Batman Trilogy

It’s fair to say that Pattinson, in terms ofThe Batmantrilogy,is only focusing on the movies he’s signed up for right now, rather than thinking about whether he will play Batman after his next two films. For Pattinson and Reeves, it could be similar to Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan’sThe Dark Knighttrilogy, where the duo felt finished with the franchise after 2012’sThe Dark Knight Rises. Hopefully, there will be more updates aboutThe Batman - Part IIas 2024 gets ready to reach its end.
