How To Unlock The Deep Melting Drill

Research & Story Requirements

You won’t be able to build the Deep Melting Drill at the start ofFrostpunk 2, but if you’re playing Story Mode, you shouldn’t have to wait long at all. Near the end of Chapter 1, you’ll be faced with a choice:either defeat the Frost or embrace it. If you want the Deep Melting Drill,you’ll need to defeat the Frost. Choosing to embrace the Frost locks off the Deep Melting Drill from your campaign.

How To Find a Permanent Source of Fuel In Frostpunk 2

Pretty early on in Frostpunk 2’s campaign, you’ll run out of coal reserves and need to find another, more permanent source of energy for your city.

From there, you’ll need to research this solution in the Heating tree after unlocking the first generator upgrade. The Deep Melting Drill costs100 Heatstampsto research and takes ten weeks to study fully, locking you out of other Research options. While you’re studying the Deep Melting Drill, use the next ten weeks to collect the needed materials to construct the finished product.

Researching the Deep Melting Drill will increase yourTrust inFrostpunk 2with the Stalwarts and New Londoners, making it a great topic to Research if you support these Factions.

In order to construct the Deep Melting Drill, you’ll need about300 Workforce, 80 Heatstamps, 40 Prefabs, and 1 Core. Cores are a scarce resource inFrostpunk 2that can only be harvested from pre-Frost technology. You can collect Cores by sending out Expeditions, but each Core must be spent carefully due to its limited quantities.
