Star Warshas gradually shown more and more ofLuke’s new Jedi Orderafter the Empire, and oneOrder 66 survivorwas much more instrumental to it than most fans know. The prequel Jedi were completely decimated by the Jedi Purge, until the likes of Luke Skywalker. Luke began to pick up the pieces around 24 years after the Purge, collecting Jedi history and knowledge to restart the Jedi Order - and restart it he did, on an ancient Jedi library world.
Luke established a newJedi Temple on Ossus, and he began to teach students in the ways of the Jedi. The young Jedi had learned a bit from his masters, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, but not nearly enough to start an entire new Order.Star Warscanon, though, has shown us that it was actually anotherOrder 66survivor that contributed a huge chunk of knowledge to Luke and his new Jedi Order.

Luke Skywalker Discovered One Massive Cache Of Jedi Knowledge
The Remains Of The Jedi Archives
While Luke Skywalker was rebuilding the Jedi Order, he searched the entire galaxy for Jedi artifacts and knowledge, becoming something of an archaeologist. In 6 ABY,two years after Endor, Luke uncovered a gigantic cache of knowledge, a large section of theCoruscant Jedi Temple’s Archivesthat had been preserved in a cave. This wasn’t random, though, and was put there on purpose by a familiar but minor character: Jocasta Nu.
The Galactic Empire Timeline Explained: The Dark Times, The Rebellion, & The Galactic Civil War
The Empire was the backdrop for much of the world-building in the original Star Wars trilogy, but what did the regime’s reign really look like?
After Order 66, the Jedi Librarian fromStar Wars: Episode II -Attack of the Clones, Jocasta Nu, began her own holdout of Jedi information under the Empire. As seen inDarth Vader#7 by Charles Soule and Giuseppe Camuncoli, Nu continually risked her life to recover more and more Jedi knowledge and lore from under the thumb of the Empire, storing it in a cave on an unknown planet. This included holocrons, datatapes, artifacts, training devices, and more, all equipment necessary to restart the Jedi Order.

Luke Skywalker
The son of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, Luke was brought up on the desert planet Tatooine. Initially mentored by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke fired the fateful shot that destroyed the Death Star, and he became a rebel hero. Despite the fears of Obi-Wan and Yoda, Luke’s faith in his father was proved well-founded when Vader returned to the light. With the Emperor defeated, Luke dedicated himself to bringing back the Jedi; his first attempt ended in tragedy due to Palpatine’s manipulations, but Luke’s legacy lives on in Rey.
Nu worked with an academic named Gar, who helped her maintain her system in the cave. Together, they intended to start a new Jedi school in secret, before even Luke Skywalker had this idea.Jocasta Nu had somehow survived Order 66, saw the destruction of the Jedi Order, and decided to make a difference. She was sadly killed before this could come to fruition, but her efforts were not in vain, as her cache of knowledge became the property of Luke Skywalker 25 years later.

How Much Did Jocasta Nu Influence Luke’s Jedi Order?
The Value Of Holocrons
This means that Jocasta Nu’s efforts at preserving the Jedi Order’s teachings became completely instrumental to Luke Skywalker’s new Jedi Order. Based on canon sources likeThe Rise of Kylo Renby Charles Soule and Will Sliney, andStar Wars(2020) by Soule and Marco Castiello, holocrons were remarkably important to Luke’s efforts. This makes sense, too, considering just what even a single holocron could hold within itself.
Holocrons were digital storage devices that could only be activated through the Force, and contained vast wealths of Jedi (or Sith) knowledge. Holocrons could include entire lessons, training sessions, books, and more, all useful for training in the Jedi arts.Luke and his students can be seen on multiple occasions accessing holocrons for the teachings of the Jedi of old, making the new Jedi Order really feel attached to the old one in a significant way, all thanks to Jocasta Nu’s preservation efforts.

The Sith also had their own holocrons that contained knowledge about the dark side. Some Sith holocrons were also stored at the Jedi Temple, likely in a dark side Bogan vault.
What Happened To Jocasta Nu?
The End Of The Jedi Librarian
As alluded to earlier, Jocasta Nu met an untimely end before her Jedi school could ever come to fruition. Not long after Order 66, she went on a fateful mission back into the Jedi Temple Archives to retrieve a list of Force-sensitive children that she could bring to the school. In the Archives, she was met by theGrand Inquisitorand Darth Vader, who engaged her in a fierce battle.
Star Wars: All 16 Inquisitors In Canon Explained
Star Wars' Inquisitors were Darth Vader’s elite death squad of Jedi-killing dark side users. Who were these Imperial agents and what were their fates?
Jocasta Nu attempted to (and successfully) use a few different Jedi artifacts against the dark siders, and eventually escaped the temple, where she was engaged by the Coruscant Guard. Cornered after a long fight, Nu attempted to end her own life, but was saved by Vader with the Force. She then reveals to the clone troopers thatVader was indeed Anakin Skywalker, forcing the Sith Lord to kill all the clones and Jocasta Nu - and bringing an end to a legendary and importantStar Warsfigure.
