TheDragon Ball Supermanga is easily one of the most contentious parts of the franchise, but a recent event has done a lot to justify its existence. Toei recently launched an official fan poll where people could vote onGoku’s best fightsin the manga, and with the official results now out, the official “Goku’s Best Bout Poll” proves thatDragon Ball Superhas more than succeeded at standing on its own as a story.

Dragon Ball Superhas been rather controversial from day one, and the manga has been especially contentious out of everything that falls under its brand. The differences between the anime and the manga were one thing, but when it started telling original stories, it was no longer in a position where fans could justify ignoring it, and that sparked further discussions of its artwork, writing, and whether it needed to exist.

The recent poll, however, proves that many fans regardDragon Ball Superpositively, and consider some of its best moments worth of being ranked among the franchise’s most iconic. That doesn’t erase all the issues people have had with it, of course, but it’s great to see for fans of the story, regardless.

Goku’s Top-Ranked Fights From Dragon Ball Super Prove the Sequel’s Value

The“Goku’s Best Bout Poll”gave people the opportunity to vote on Goku’s best fights in theDragon Ballmanga, and the top 10 included no less than three fights fromDragon Ball Super: Goku vs. Jiren’s at 10th place, Goku vs. Gohan at 6th place, and Goku vs. Moro at 4th place. Those fights all ranked either almost as highly or even higher than iconic fights like Goku vs. Majin Vegeta, Goku vs. Cell, and Goku vs. Frieza, The “Goku’s Best Bout Poll” is definitive proof thatpeople seeDragon Ball Superas a worthy part of the franchiseand not just an unnecessary cash grab.

As for why each of those specific fights ranked so highly, that’s very easy to understand. The top-voted Goku fights fromDragon Ball Superall excel througha combination of emotional stakes and incredible fight choreography, with Goku’s fight with Moro working especially well for how it played off Merus’ emotional sacrifice. The fact that Goku and Jiren’s fight ranked so highly despite not being as flashy as the anime’s version supports that idea even further, and it’s the biggest showing of whyDragon Ball Superhas long since proved itself as a story.

What Dragon Ball Super’s Manga Needs To Do To Improve Its Reputation

The fights fromDragon Ball Superthat ranked so highly did so because of how much they added to the story in terms of artwork and writing as opposed to just retreading old ground like many parts of the series are guilty of, all of which means thatDragon Ball Supercan succeed by focusing on the strengths of itsart and writing as opposed to prioritizing action and nostalgia. If theDragon Ball Supermanga can do that, then it’s sure to draw even more praise and will hopefully shed its divisive reputation for good.
