Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Ghosts season 4, episode 4, “The Work Retreat”

AlthoughGhostsseason 4 can’t keep all of its main characters around all the time, it is still a shame to see the outing waste a character who was already under-used in season 3.The ghosts of CBS’sGhostsare a wild group of spirits and the undead inhabitants of the Woodstone mansion reliably cause chaos for Sam and Jay on a weekly basis.Ghostsseason 4’s cast of charactersintroduced Mary Holland’s Puritan Patience to the show’s growing lineup, and her powers proved even more intense than most of the earlier revelations about the mansion’s ghosts.

Frank’s Ghosts Season 4 Debut Emphasizes A Harsh Reality About Sam’s Powers

Although Ghosts season 4 did reunite Sam with her father, the hit CBS sitcom couldn’t hide how tragic Sam’s powers make her family relationships.

Patience could make the walls bleed human blood, a terrifying ability that led her to almost ruin Sam’s reunion with her estranged father, Frank. AlthoughGhostsseason 4’s new character Patiencedid return to “The dirt” at the end of episode 3, “Halloween IV: The Witch,” she still dominated the action of season 4’s first three outings. As such, Thor, Trevor, Flower, Hetty, Sass, Alberta, and the rest of the ghosts didn’t get as much focus as usual. Isaac remained central, but episode 4, “The Work Retreat,” only made up for a few of the underused characters mentioned above.

Flower Is Missing In Ghosts Season 4, Episode 4

Flower Spent Much Of Season 3 Trapped Under The Mansion

Even though she was seemingly killed off in season 3,Flower’s absence from “The Work Retreat” proves thatGhostsseason 4 still doesn’t know what to do with her. Flower doesn’t play a role in “The Work Retreat,” wherein Isaac tries out a new look with Alberta’s help, Pete tries to stop Hetty, Sass, and Thor from spreading rumors about him, and Trevor attempts to impress his co-workers with Jay’s assistance. Flower’s absence is doubly unfortunate after she was missing for much of season 3. The ghosts even held a funeral for her, thinking that she had been “Sucked off” to the afterlife.

To make matters worse, minor supporting stars like Nancy and Judy did feature in the episode’s complex story.

Flower was not gone for good, but “The Work Retreat” proves she still isn’t a high priority for the show.Ghostsseason 4 complicated Nigel and Isaac’s splitby revealing that Pete’s seemingly perfect girlfriend wasn’t so ideal after all, and the episode brought back Thor’s son Bjorn for a brief cameo role. However, even though Flower is one of the show’s main ghosts, she wasn’t seen in an episode that otherwise incorporated all the major ghosts from the series. To make matters worse, minor supporting stars like Nancy and Judy did feature in the episode’s complex story.

Ghosts Has Yet To Make Up For Flower’s Lost Time In Season 3

Isaac and Pete’s Storylines Have Taken Up Much of Season 3 and 4’s Focus

Fortunately, there is still time forGhostsseason 4 to fix Flower’s diminished role. According toTVLine, the outing will explore Sass’s backstory and Jay will gain the ability to see the ghosts in future episodes. However, this still leaves a lot of screen time for Flowers’s subplot in season 4.Ghostsseason 4 must address Hetty’s powersand Patience’s ominous mention of “The Others,” but Flower should be the show’s main priority. AfterGhostsseason 3 almost dropped her permanently, season 4 must highlight Flower’s pivotal role in maintaining the balance between the Woodstone mansion’s big personalities.
