Gen Vseason 2 looks like it will flip the show’s two biggest villains, andthat will makeThe Boysspinoff even more interesting. Theending ofGen Vseason 1sees Cate and Sam joining the Supes who support Homelander, fully embracing his ideology about Supes and ordinary humans. The duojoins Homelander’s army inThe Boysseason 4, placing themselves firmly on the villains' side of this story. However, before Cate and Sam take dark turns inGen V,the spinoff shows more compassionate sides of their characters.

Those are nowhere to be seen inThe Boysseason 4, butGen Vseason 2 will have more time to dig into their characters in depth again. And judging by theGen Vseason 2 footage from San Diego Comic-Con, the two characters will switch roles in the coming episodes. While both remain in opposition to characters like Marie Moreau and Jordan Li,it seems like Cate may actually be easier to reason with than Golden Boy’s younger brother.

Gen V Season 2 Appears To Be Flipping Cate & Sam’s Villain Roles

Cate Will Be More Remorseful In The Boys Spinoff

In SDCC’s first look atGen Vseason 2,it seems like Cate is remorseful for her actions at the end of season 1 — and Sam appears to be content. This is the exact opposite of where these characters stand during the first season finale. After facing betrayal and cruelty at the hands of ordinary humans, Cate fully leans into Homelander’s belief that Supes are superior. The finale sees Sam facing a greater internal conflict, especially with Emma pushing back at him. Cate even has to take away Sam’s feelings for him to fully commit to her cause.

With Sam void of feelings and Cate still in possession of hers, it looks like their roles will be reversed inGen Vseason 2.

And with Sam void of feelings and Cate still in possession of hers, it looks like their roles will be reversed inGen Vseason 2. Now that Cate has had time to cool off, she’ll be questioning her choices. After all,Gen Vdoesn’t paint her as a wholly evil or ignorant person. She’s probably the most manipulative — and most easily manipulated — of the Godolkin gang. However, she’s someone who will see the horrors Homelander commits to at theend ofThe Boysseason 4for what they are.

All 23 Supes In The Boys: Gen V Ranked By Power

Gen V follows the students of Godolkin University, and it introduces many new Supes whose powers range from almost useless to super strong.

By contrast, Sam only knows such atrocities, as he spends much of his time inThe Woods prior toGen V.Sam no longer has his older brother or girlfriend to guide him, and he also doesn’t have access to the doubt he feels in season 1. This could push him to become a much more sinister villain, while Cate may reconnect with her friends and redeem herself.

What Cate’s Regrets Reveal About Gen V Season 2’s Story

Cate Could See A Redemption Arc That Impacts The Boys Season 5

Cate’s regrets suggest she’ll get a redemption arc inGen Vseason 2, and this part of the spinoff’s story could have a huge impact onThe Boysseason 5. With Marie and the others returning to Godolkin University after their stand-off with Homelander, Cate will be interacting with them throughout the sophomore season. This is likely to make Cate feel even worse, as Marie and the others will be a constant reminder of what she’s done. Assuming they have their memories and are in a position to speak about them, they’ll be angry at Cate and appeal to her guilt.

Gen Vseason 2 is slated to premiere on Prime Video in 2025.

And if they help Cate turn against Homelander and his army, that could have huge repercussions forThe Boysseason 5. Cate has one of the most powerful abilities inThe Boysuniverse, so she’d make a great inside man for the resistance. She could control Homelander’s cronies and take over their memories, and this could be a huge help in stopping him and rescuing characters like Hughie, Frenchie, and Kimiko. Whether Cate’s redemption will go that far remains to be seen, but it would be a straightforward way to tieGen Vseason 2 andThe Boystogether.

Sam May Still Feel Conflicted In Gen V Season 2 (If Cate Lets Him)

Sam’s Character Is More Interesting With An Inner Conflict

WhileGen Vis flipping Cate’s and Sam’s roles in season 2, it’s possible Sam will have some inner conflict in the coming episodes. In fact, it will be pretty uninteresting if he doesn’t. The main reason Sam is so unfeeling currently is because Cate took his emotions away from him. Butwe know fromGen Vseason 1 that Cate can return people’s memories and feelings, and if she’s on the path to redemption, it would make sense for Sam to follow. He may not make the same choice inGen Vseason 2, but he shouldn’t be a fully villainous character either.
