DuringBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4, Daisy was engulfed by conflict. The Chief Stew had steered clear of drama since she joined the show in season 2. However, that changed when she pursued a boatmance with chief engineer Colin Macrae. As Daisy’s connection with Colin blossomed, Gary grew jealous. It was shockingly revealed that theChief Stew and First Officer had hooked up before season 4.They kept their intimacy private until the season, when Gary saw her boatmance with Colin. Daisy admitted she used to have feelings for him, but he was too busy living a playboy lifestyle.
Gary Used Mads To Have Some Fun
Gary & Mads’ Boatmance Was A Trainwreck
While Gary was flirting with Daisy, he also had a boatmance of his own going on. Mads Herrera joined the crew as a new stew during season 4, and the First Officer immediately went after her. Season after season, Gary found new women to hook up with. After he set his sights on Mads, they began another problematic boatmance.Mads made it clear that she wasn’t looking for a relationship,though Gary thought he could coerce her into pursuing their connection further.
When the stew stood firm in terms of her beliefs, he grew angry and lashed out.
The First Officer got incrediblyterritorial when Mads became interested in Alex Propson. The deckhand was interested in the stew, though he knew she was romantically entangled with Gary. During one of the worst moments of the season, Alex told him Mads was on her period, and he freaked out. Gary went to Mads and asked if she was on her cycle in front of fellow stew Lucy Edmunds. Instead of having a private conversation, the First Officertold her it was “common decency” to tell him if she was on her period before he “went down” on her.
Mads was visibly uncomfortable during the exchange.Gary had no right to attempt to confront the stewabout one of their hook-ups. His entitlement on a topic as personal as her period was hard to watch back in season 4. Gary approached their conversation terribly and later apologized for how he handled the situation, though that didn’t vindicate him and erase the moment.
Gary Felt No Remorse For How He Treated The Women On Board
The First Officer never feels bad about treating women poorly. On and off the show,Gary hasn’t taken accountability for his actions. He’s been romantically involved with multiple women during each season ofBelow Deckhe’s appeared in,typically hooking up with at least two people each charter season. During his first season, Gary had a girlfriend at home but proceeded to be intimate with two women onboard. Outside his portrayal on the show,Below Deckmakeup artist Samantha Suarez accused him of wrongdoing, but he said he’d done nothing wrong.
Samantha said she was tasked with bringing Gary back to his hotel after he tested positive for COVID-19 and was intoxicated during the filming of season 4. In an August 21, 2025,Rolling Stonearticle,she alleged he “was behaving erratically” and tried to restrict her from leaving the hotel by holding her from behindas she tried to leave the room. She also allegedly told the production team about the altercation and no action was taken against theBelow Deckstar. However, the claims were seemingly investigated. Since the article was released, Gary has disputed Samantha’s allegations.

In since-deleted comments, the First Officer wrote on his Instagram, “It’s so weird, it’s also so far from the truth,” as shared byUs Weekly. Gary responded to more claims about the allegations on Instagram in July 2024, stating, “never have I nor never will I ever do anything against anyone’s will,” per Reddit Useru/teleport massive. He added, “every girl I’ve worked with has only nice things to say about me thank you very much.” Gary’sbehavior hasn’t been the best onBelow Deck, though he’s failed to acknowledge that, further digging his grave with the audience.
Gary Was Selfish & Flirted With Daisy Despite Colin’s Feelings
Gary shouldn’t have inserted himself into Daisy and Colin’s boatmance. Hecreated a love trianglethat made waves throughout the entirety of season 4. They all began working with each other during season 2 and formed a friendship among themselves. Instead of respecting Colin’s feelings, Gary had to mark his territory and flirt with Daisy, confusing the Chief Stew in the process. Theirboatmance was entirely problematic, and the First Officer shouldn’t have attempted to win Daisy back simply because he was jealous she found a new romantic relationship onboard.
Gary’s actions onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4 hint he won’t return for season 5. For years, he’s been called out for his poor behavioe and lack of compassion toward the women in his crew. After scathing allegations were made about his conduct behind the scenes, Gary might be let go from theBelow Deckfranchise altogether.
