Summary

TheFuturamarevival on Hulu has brought back many of the show’s most iconic antagonists, but a recent season 12 episode missed the perfect opportunity to bring back a villain from 24 years ago.Futuramaseason 12 has seen tons of Easter eggsand callbacks to the original seasons, bringing back fond memories ofFuturama’s earliest episodes. Futuramaseason 12, episode 4, “Beauty and the Bug"sees Bender get involved in another strange hobby: buggalo fighting. Futurama is filled with lots of fun and comical side characters who help make it unique, from rival captains to alien news hosts.

Futurama Season 12’s Matador Episode Didn’t Bring Back The Show’s Matador Villain

But It Would Have Made So Much Sense

SinceFuturamaseason 12, episode 4is all about matadors, it is incredibly surprising that the episode didn’t bring back the show’s matador villain.Futuramaseason 2, episode 8, “Raging Bender” introduces several new robot villains, all of whom compete in a robot fighting circuit. One of these robots is named Foreigner, with him being a matador-themed robotic wrestler.

Since this character’s entire identity is based around bullfighting,it is strange that he didn’t at least have a cameo inFuturama’s first true bullfighting episode. This is made even more shocking due to the fact that “Beauty and the Bug” is about Bender rising up in the world of buggalo fighting, while Foreigner’s debut episode was about Bender rising up in the world of professional wrestling.

Futurama’s Revival Kills Off Every Character For The Second Time In 14 Years

Futurama season 12 just did a parody of Netflix’s Squid Game, but it also manages to continue a dark trend from Futurama’s past episodes.

Why Futurama Would Have To Update Foreigner To Bring Him Back

But It Has Already Done This For Other Characters

IfFuturamaever did want to bring back Foreigner, they would undoubtedly need to update the character. The robot’s stereotypical Spanish aesthetic and name could be seen as problematic, with the show most likely wanting to update the character who was introduced in the year 2000.

This wouldn’t be a problem, however, asHulu’sFuturamarevival has already updated several charactersto be less problematic for the modern day. This has even included recasting characters who were voiced by actors of different races, something that has become controversial in the years sinceFuturamawent off the air. This trend proves thatFuturamaseason 12 should have had no problem updating this matador villain for the revival, making it a strange decision that he was left behind.
