Furiosa Should Continue Redeeming Its Box Office Failure On Streaming
It’s Been Successful On Home Media
A few days before its theatrical release in May, theMad Maxmovie premiered out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where the firstFuriosareviewspraised the film for adding emotional depth toFury Roadin retrospect, even though it doesn’t quite match its relentless pace. Overall, critics considerFuriosaanother brilliant and exhilarating entryinto Miller’sMad Maxfranchise. The movie holds a strong 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, coupled with an 89% audience score.
Every Mad Max Movie, Ranked Worst To Best
George Miller has made five Mad Max movies in the post-apocalyptic franchise, but their quality can vary. The Mad Max movies ranked reveals the best.
However,Furiosabombed at the box office, grossing only $172 million against its $168 million budget. Typically, a movie needs to make two times its production budget to break even, thoughFuriosawas just able to recoup its budget and likely lost millions for Warner Bros. It’s disappointing thatFuriosa’s immense acclaim didn’t translate into box office success, though it shouldn’t have been very surprising.Mad Max: Fury Road, despite being one of thebest action movies of all time, was only a modest box office success that grossed $380.4 million against its $154.6–185.2 million budget.

Though it bombed at the box office,Furiosahas been redeeming itself on home media. Shortly after its release,Furiosaheld the top spot on two VOD charts, iTunes for July 1, and Fandango at Home for the week of June 24–30. ThoughFuriosawasn’t able to drive audiences out to theaters in droves, it has been a success on VOD, and this should surely continue as it starts streaming on Max later this month.
