Coming in late March, the second major update forFinal Fantasy 14’sDawntrailexpansion, Patch 7.2, will be adding some important features, including a new set of relic weapons and the next tier of raids. Released in Summer 2024,Dawntrailhas faced a somewhat more mixed reception than previousFFXIVexpansions likeEndwalkerorShadowbringers, but the game is still continually updating with new content, and many players have noted the expansion’s dungeons and raids to be a particular high point.

As revealed on theFFXIVwebsite, Patch 7.2, titledSeekers of Eternity, will be adding several new features to the game, includingnew main story content, the second tier of the Arcadion raid series, and a new set of relic weapons, called Phantom Weapons. Notably,Dawntrail’s relic weapons will be attached to the new Field Operation also being introduced in 7.2, The Occult Crescent, which will be similar to Eureka and Bozja from previous expansions.

New Phantom Weapons & The Next Arcadion Tier: How They’ll Change FFXIV

Patch 7.2 Is Adding Major New Content To Dawntrail

Heading intoFFXIV’s Patch 7.2,The Occult Crescent and the associated Phantom Weapons will likely be a focal point for many players, as relic weapons serve as both elaborate glamour pieces and best-in-slot equipment for anyone not taking on Savage raids. Notably, attaching Phantom Weapons to the new Field Operation is a return to the relic farming method from bothShadowbringersandStormblood, afterEndwalkersimply asked players to farm tomestones to acquire the relics of that expansion.

The new raid tier coming in 7.2,The Arcadion: Cruiserweight Division, will also add four new endgame raidsand a new tier of raid gear to go along with it. As is now customary forFF14raids, the normal raid tier will be available as soon as the patch launches, but the much harder Savage tier will only be made available about a week later, giving Savage raiders a grace period to clear normal content, craft gear, and find raid groups.

Patch 7.2 Looks Like A Step Up From Recent FFXIV Updates

A New Field Operation And Raid Tier Is What FFXIV Needs

All in all,7.2 looks like it’s shaping up to be a highlight patch forDawntrail, especially with the release of a new Field Operation. Personally, while I appreciatedEndwalker’s simpler method of farming relic weapons at the time, especially given the difficulty of trying to farm Bozja relics after Bozja was no longer “current content,” I think re-introducing Field Operations is the correct choice. Having to do new, unique content for relics makes getting and upgrading them more rewarding than just exchanging tomestones for them.

Final Fantasy 14 Director Yoshi-P Missing From Board Of Directors List Following Square Enix Restructuring

Final Fantasy 14 and 16 director Naoki Yoshida doesn’t appear on the board of directors at Square Enix per a recent announcement, sparking questions.

Other additions, like the new Cosmic Restoration content for crafters and gatherers, should round out the experience and make sure that 7.2 has something for every kind ofFFXIVplayer. Given the quality of the first tier of Arcadion raids, Cruiserweight Division should also offer some interesting challenges, especially for the relatively few players who want to take on the Savage versions. Currently, Patch 7.2 forFinal Fantasy 14has no set release date other than a late March window, but it definitely looks like a promising patch.
