Fallout: New Vegasmay not be the first game one thinks of when Halloween approaches, butwith this fun new mod the Mojave Wasteland can be turned into a playground for the spooky season. There’s no denying that theFalloutfranchise has itsfair share of horror influences; The Feral Ghouls that roam around the Capital Wasteland and the terrifying Cazadors that plague the perimeter of New Vegas are certainly scary for some fans. Having said that, the series' tone and aesthetic aren’t generally associated with pure terror, so a little helping hand is needed to complete the vision.

Posted to Nexus Mods by creatorPiro, the “Halloween Special - Wasteland Psychos and Serial Killers” mod adds several fun features toFallout: New Vegas, includingthree Pumpkin Masks, a “Serial Killer Hockey Mask” clearly inspired by Jason Voorhees, a Grim Reaper Scythe, and even Pumpkin Grenadesto terrorize the local NPCs. While the mod itself doesn’t do much to transformNew Vegasinto a horror-infused nightmare, its best addition will make running around the Wasteland scarier: Several random encounters with “different psychos and serial killers.”

Everything Included In The Mod

Perfect For A Halloween Replay

While the new masks are perfect for players looking to roam the New Vegas stripas an unkillable slasher, the random encounters are the truly exciting feature. These villains can be found scattered throughout the desert and will instantly attack the Courier when they’re encountered. Fortunately, the mod also provides two new weapons that should make dealing with these assaults a little easier: A Grim Reaper Scythe with two weapon mods (Skull Remover and Molten Metal) and the aforementioned Pumpkin Grenades that contain a “fear toxin.”

Several new outfits inspired by Halloween have also been added, each bearing unique stats to help immerse players in a spooky mood.Everything included in the mod should makeFallout: New Vegassignificantly creepier, especially for those who want to role-play as the Strip’s resident Michael Myers or Ghostface. The serial killer random encounters instill an exciting anxiety into exploration while the new masks and weapons help further celebrate the tropes of the season.

Fallout: New Vegas has become a fan favorite over the years, but those looking to replay it may not find replaying it as special as before.

Does Fallout Make For A Good Halloween Game?

There Are Probably Some Better Options

Fallout: New Vegascan be a creepy game at times but in my opinion, there are better options for players looking to celebrate Halloween. Even with the mod,the game’s overall tone and aesthetic never crosses the line into horror. Some appropriate alternatives could be survival-horror games likeSilent Hill 2(the remake is just around the corner), theResident Evilseries,Alien: Isolation, andDead by Daylightfor horror fanswho fancy scaring their friends.
