The recently announcedDestiny: Risinghas shared tons of new information on what fans can expect. TheDestinyfranchise has always been a roller coaster. Both mainline titles have had periods of immense success and failure, with the success being large enough to keep the beloved looter-shooter going for ten years. Even with a decade of progress, Bungie has recently faced multiple layoffs that have created waves of unease among the community.
Most recently,Destiny 2saw itsbiggest DLC yet inThe Final Shape. This expansion was one of the biggest and best to hit the franchise, perfectly wrapping up the decade-long story of the Light and Darkness Saga. However, while it was a massive success critically, its sales were lower than any other DLC. Despite this,Destinywill go on with anew roadmap structure in 2024–2025, and a new game,Destiny: Rising, could bolster its income massively.

What Will Destiny: Rising Gameplay Be Like?
Wield The Light On The Go
Destiny: Risingwill be similar to the mainline game in many ways. The gameplay is almost exactly the same as baseDestiny, with only two major differences. One is that players can choose to use a first- or third-person point of view. The other is that these new Lightbearers will have unique kits. Two examples of this are a Warlock-like character who uses Void Scythes and another who utilizes Arc shields. This has led many to believe that the game may be gacha-like.
Risingwill have the same activities in Campaign missions, Strikes, and 6v6 PvP content. However, NetEase has said that new activities for PvE and PvP will pop up. Along with this, new weapon types and rarities will appear throughout the game. This new rarity, while not fully explained yet, is above the Exotic tier and deemed Mythic.

How Does Destiny: Rising Connect To Destiny?
A Familiar But Different World
For better or worse,Destiny: Risingwill take place in an alternate timeline. Time period-wise, the events take place slightly after the Dark Age. This is a period inDestinywhere Guardians didn’t exist. Lightbearers were free to do what they wanted with their powers, whether good or bad. This is why forgotten powers and gear can be used freely without contradicting the main timeline. However, the game has already shown that some well-known characters will make an appearance, with the only confirmed one being Ikora Ray.
Though it is unfortunate crossovers will be unlikely – mainlyRisingcontent coming to the mainline game – this path is the best. This allows NetEase to take the story and do things with the game without worrying about messing with the canon. A prime example of this is a Fallen Captain who seems to be an NPC vendor, something that would be impossible in the history of mainlineDestiny. The one caveat to this is, with as much time and universe manipulation asDestinyhas done lately, it would not be impossible for some popular things to cross over.
When Destiny: Rising’s Alpha Begins
An Early Glimpse At The Future
TheDestiny: Risingalphawillstart on June 24, 2025, and will be open to selected pre-registrants in the USA and Canada. Potential players can pre-register on theDestiny: Risingwebsite and view all the necessary information there. However, it should be noted that no progress will carry over at the game’s official launch. Regardless, this will be a crucial opportunity for players to see whatRisingwill be like, along with NetEase getting early feedback to apply and make the title as good as possible.
Though the finer details ofDestiny: Risingare unknown until the alpha, with the chance they change before the official launch, the early excitement for the game is palpable. How the game will go about making a profit is the major area of concern, but it shouldn’t be a killer if it’s along the lines ofDiablo Immortal, which can beplayed without spending money. Regardless of this,Destiny:Risingstands to be a potentially massive boon to the entire franchise if it can succeed, even if little is currently known about its details.
