The wait is finally over, asDragon Ball: Sparking! Zeroplayers swarm to the game’s early access launch, butthe extreme challenge and difficulty havemany questioning whether the experience needs to be adjusted. While the franchise is known for providing fans with authentic interactive battles that capture the ferocity of the anime, the classicBudokai Tenkaichigames always managed to straddle the line between accessible and tough. That doesn’t appear to be the case withSparking! Zeroas one fight in particular is driving many players to request a balance patch.
Over on Reddit, one of the most widely criticized parts of the game is the fight against Great Ape Vegeta, with userMountainDoupointing out that the massive opponent is able to demolish players by unleashing a seemingly endless onslaught of Galick Gun attacks.

UserCirkusleadertook this a step further, stating thatsome segments of the story mode are “borderline impossible” thanks to enemies dealing significantly more damagethan players and the AI breaking out massive combos at a second’s notice. The consensus amongst the community is that Spike Chunsoft needs to adjust the difficulty to make the experience more fair.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero - Is Combat Too Hard?
It Doesn’t Seem Like A Skill Issue
Since only a small portion of the community has access toSparking! Zeroat the time of writing, it can be difficult to nail down whether the difficulty complaints are justified. Having said that, the sheer number of posts regarding the AI’s brutal speed and combos suggests thatthe problem is widespread enough that something needs to be rebalanced. It could be the case that players new to the franchise are simply struggling but evenveterans withBudokai Tenkaichiexperiencehave stated that they’re battling with some of the encounters.
One of the more common responses to worry about the challenge is that players who can’t figure out the game should head to the tutorials and learn more about the core systems. In Screen Rant’s review, critic Joshua Fox states that “there’s a definite learning curve to the combat,“elaborating that knowledge of the more “advanced” techniques is the key to success. It could be the case that some players just need some practice, even if a balance update is necessary.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero - Release Date, Characters, & Edition Differences
Over a decade since the last Budokai Tenkaichi game, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has finally received an official release date in 2024.
Screen Rant’s Take: A Patch Is Needed
There Are Just Too Many Complaints
Even ifDragon Ball: Sparking! Zero’s community is simply out of practice,I have to believe the number of veterans noticing the balance issues warrants some kind of intervention. Whether or not Spike Chunsoft can adjust the AI or damage numbers before the wider launch remains to be seen but the number ofplayers battling in the story modeshould be enough to justify some kind of patch. At the very least, the Great Ape Vegeta battle desperately needs to be tweaked to be less brutal for everyone.
