This year, Donald Duck is celebrating his 90th anniversary - and he’s doing so in style. He has already spent some time as a hero of his own, being the Duck Avenger in comics. He made his debut as a Marvel hero inWhat If…? Donald Duck Became Wolverine#1 in July.

A preview forWhat If…? Donald Duck Became The Mighty Thor #1reveals the titular hero in the place of Donald Blake as he encounters a cave, becoming the Mighty Thor. Also featured within the preview are Donald’s nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Becoming Thor means Donald gets to wield the legendary weapon, Mjolnir. In Marvel Comics - and very memorably in the MCU - multiple characters have lifted or wielded Mjolnir. Captain America, Vision, and Jane Foster are all notable examples. However, in a crossover with DC Comics, Wonder Woman also wielded Mjolnir, beating Donald for the first non-Marvel hero to do so.
Though Donald may be an unexpected character to step into the role of Thor, the collaborations between Marvel and Disney have resulted in some highly interesting mash-ups.
DC vs. Marvel/Marvel vs. DC, which was a four-issue series released in 1996, has the creative team of Ron Marz, Peter David, Dan Jurgens, and Claudio Castellini. The second issue featured Wonder Woman discovering Mjolnir, which had gone missing, and being deemed worthy to wield it. Despite this, during a match-up with Storm, Diana would not ultimately use Mjolnir against her foe, passing up the incredible power-up it would have given her. Nonetheless, like Captain America and Jane Foster,Wonder Woman was worthyto possess the power of Thor, just like Donald Duck now will.
