Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Doctor Strange of Asgard #1!Doctor Strangehas always been themagical protector of Earth as the Sorcerer Supreme, but in the current state of Marvel Comics canon, he has lost that title and the power that comes with it. However, that doesn’t mean Stephen Strange is ready to hang up his career as a god-tier sorcerer. He just needs to find a different path that leads to a similar power - a superior power, in fact. And Doctor Strange may have done just that.
In a preview forDoctor Strange of Asgard#1 by Derek Landy and Carlos Magno,Stephen Strange travels to Asgardfor one reason: to get a job. What kind of job? Well, one that Stephen is uniquely qualified for: the position of Asgard’s Sorcerer Supreme.

Thankfully,Thor is the All-Father and King of Asgard, so Doctor Strange was able to submit his verbal application to a fellow Avenger and old friend. However, the position of Asgard’s Sorcerer Supreme is one that Stephen made up - Asgard doesn’t typically have a Sorcerer Supreme. Therefore, Stephen still has to pitch his idea to Asgard’s magical authority, Sorceress Hulda, and hope she’s as open-minded as Thor. If Doctor Strange pulls this off, he’ll be able to channel Asgardian magic as well as that of Midgard, making him a truly god-tier Sorcerer Supreme.
Why Doctor Strange Wants (& Needs) To Be the Sorcerer Supreme of Asgard
Doctor Strange Lost the Title of Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme to Doctor Doom
It may seem odd that Doctor Strange wants to become Asgard’s Sorcerer Supreme (mostly because he’s not Asgardian), but in truth, it’s a brilliant tactical move on his part.Doctor Doom took the position of Sorcerer Supremefrom Doctor Strange during Marvel’s recentBlood Huntevent, as only he knew the spell that would defeat the vampire gods and save the world.
Unfortunately, now Doom has world-conquering power, and he’s using it during Marvel’s ongoing event: One World Under Doom. While Strange did what he had to do to save the world, he’s now desperate to get his power back any way he can, as he’s the only one who can defeat Doctor Doom. So, Doctor Strange came up with a brilliant idea: become the Sorcerer Supreme of Asgard.

Doctor Strange as Asgard’s Sorcerer Supreme Needs to Last
Marvel Comics Needs to Keep Doctor Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme of Asgard
When Doctor Strange inevitably achieves his mission of becoming Asgard’s Sorcerer Supreme, Marvel needs to keep him that way. Doctor Strange should use his new position to defeat Doctor Doom before becoming a permanent fixture in Asgard from that moment forward. Then, a new Sorcerer Supreme of Earth can be selected, allowing Marvel Comics to give fans something new while making sure Doctor Strange keeps his god-tier upgrade.
Doctor Strange Unveils a New Costume That Reinvents the Hero After Losing His Sorcerer Supreme Title
Marvel has shown off the new costume that Doctor Strange will be rocking as he seeks out a type of magic he’s never messed with before.
Doctor Strange and Thor would be the ultimate heroes of Asgard who help with problems on Midgard during any crisis that requires the attention of the Avengers, all while a new Sorcerer Supreme of Earth could have the chance to come into their own. But, even if this is only temporary,Doctor Strangeis still on the precipice of becoming a new kind of Sorcerer Supreme that’s more powerful than any before.
