A Scarlet Witch reference inDeadpool & WolverinehadMCUfans getting their hopes up, but the real explanation behind it makes their theory a bit more complicated. The meta nature of theDeadpooltrilogy has always let it make references in ways other Marvel movies can’t.The final film of the trilogy was no different, featuringplenty of shocking cameosand Easter eggs. One of the scenes filled with the most exciting references was the heroes’ hideout in the Void.
Home to Elektra, Blade, Gambit, and X-23 when Deadpool and Wolverine meet them, the team’s living quarters feature souvenirs from across different universes and timelines. The documentaryAssembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverinepointed some of theseEaster eggsout, but one ofthe most eye-catching pieces is undoubtedly the huge statue of Wanda Maximoff cast onto the ceiling. Eager fans saw this as a hint to Wanda’s MCU return, but the documentary offers a different explanation that puts the theory into a new perspective.

The Actual Explanation Behind Deadpool & Wolverine Using That Doctor Strange 2 Scarlet Witch Statue Totally Changes The Theory It Teases Her Return
According toDeadpool & Wolverineproduction designer Raymond Chan, he was instructed to include as many Easter eggs in the heroes’ hideout as he could to pay homage to the fans. The references ended up including the skull bed that Hulk sleeps on in Sakaar duringThor: Ragnarokand a table that Carol Danvers has on her spaceship duringThe Marvels. The one that Chan talked about the most, though, was the statue of Wanda on the ceiling, which he was inspired to include after seeing the 24-foot tall statue of her inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Mount Wundagore & Its Connection To The Darkhold & Scarlet Witch Explained
The lore surrounding witchcraft in the MCU contains many mentions of Mount Wundagore, from its connection to the Scarlet Witch to the Darkhold.
It’s impressive that Chan and his team were able to find a way to incorporate the large Mount Wundagore statue. Fans wanted this clear reference to the Scarlet Witch to be Marvel’s way of teasing her return, and if it had just been the cast of her on the ceiling that was included as an Easter egg, there might’ve been more weight to that theory. However, several other characters’ possessions are also present in the hideout, meaning thatthe Wanda Easter egg wasn’t supposed to be its own moment but rather part of the collective reference.

Scarlet Witch’s MCU Return Is Still Possible - But It Isn’t Easy
Just because theDeadpool & WolverineScarlet Witch reference wasn’t an actual hint doesn’t mean that her MCU return is impossible, but it definitely won’t be easy. The recent release ofAgatha All Alongfurther throws a wrench into the return theory. Many fans predicted thatthe show would be the place where Marvel would set up Wanda’s returnthrough her son Billy. That was later revealed not to be his wish for the Witches’ Road, and in fact, he didn’t have much of a connection to his supposed mother.
Scarlet Witch is confirmed dead in the MCU and her reincarnated son currently has no intentions of trying to bring her back. Combined with the actual explanation behind herDeadpool & WolverineEaster egg, Wanda fans may be losing hope. However, anything is possible in the multiverse, andit does feel like Marvel is slowly hinting at her actual return. It may not happen as quickly as some like, but she very well could play an important part in the culmination of the Multiverse Saga.
