DC Takes A Wild Swing With It’s Latest Retcon: The Joker Isn’t Crazy, He’s Possessed
DC Horror Presents#4 – Written By Patton Oswalt & Jordan Blum; Art By Danny Earls; Color By Jão Canola; Lettering By Simon Bowland.
The Joker’s madness has always been a core part of his character. Even powerful telepaths likeMartian Manhunter have struggled to keep Joker’s chaotic mindordered enough for him to be sane. It was always strange that the Joker’s madness would reassert itself. It makes way more sense that this would be the case now, if there were demons living inside his head which were the root cause of his madness. It would also explain why nearlynothing ever seems to actually cure his insanity, and perhaps even why he’s resistant to mind reading.
InArkham Asylum: Living Hell…it was revealed there is a portal to hell under Arkham Asylum. So, it is not unreasonable to assume that Joker might have come in contact with a few due to his lengthy stays there.

This would explain how he managed to get possessed not once, but dozens of times over the years as he continually grew more and more dangerous.
The Joker’s Madness Actually Makes More Sense If It Has A Supernatural Origin
Nothing About The Joker Is Ordinary, Especially Not His Insanity
People have been trying for decades tocure the Joker’s insanity. Martian Manhunter has tried, Batman has tried, and an entire army of trained psychologists have tried along with using the best treatments that modern medicine has to offer. None of it has worked. That’s always been chalked up to the Joker simply being too crazy or being hyper-sane. But this new lore drop changes everything. If the Joker is possessed by demons, then there’s nothing modern medicine can do for him; it’s not a doctor that theJokerneeds, it’s an exorcist.
Joker Officially Became a DC Hero in 2024, As “The Most Sane Man on the Face of the Earth”
In a wild evolution, DC’s mainstream Joker went from supervillain to hero, helping Superman to survive one of his darkest moment of all time.
The Joker
The Joker is a psychopathic criminal mastermind with a warped sense of humor. Initially introduced as a remorseless serial killer, the character evolved over time, often oscillating between a prankster and a homicidal maniac. His relationship with Batman is one of the most complex in comic book history, defined by their mutual obsession. Over the decades, the Joker has become an enduring icon of chaos and madness, embodying the antithesis of Batman’s order and justice.
