It seems the rolling momentum has come to a halt, for now at least,asDandadanis taking a one-month hiatus, and is scheduled to return on July 07, 2025. No details were given about the break, though Yukinobu Tatsu has taken similar amounts of time off in the past to conduct research for his series. Fans who’ve come to look forward to ‘DandadanMondays’ might find themselves missing the manga over the next month. Luckily, there is another newShōnen Jumptitle perfect for filling the void.

Dandadan Takes a Break Just Before the Action Begins

Yukinobu Tatsu’s Original Manga Is Set to Return in Late February

Dandadan’s manga has spent its past few chapterssetting up the next big climactic encounter with the paranormal. The main cast of characters has been busy investigating which teacher ordered Kouki Yukishiro to attack Momo, while Seiko has diligently searched for a way to return her granddaughter to normal size. The most recent chapter #182, titled “Something’s Taken the Bait”, splits the cast up further, however.

One group is accompanying Momo on the trip to Shimane to break her curse, while Okarun, Aira, and Kinta head back to the school to rescue Kouki from the mysterious teacher. Ending on a bit of a cliffhanger, it’s reasonable to assume thatupcoming chapters will feature a rise in action. Tatsu is known for his consistent and incredibly detailed artwork, and a break is well deserved before the series' author dives into another high-energy section of his story.

Dandadan Is on Hiatus, but Another Series Can Fill the Void

One of Shōnen Jump’s Newer Series Is Rapidly Rising in Popularity

Shōnen Jumptook a bit of a hit in 2024, losing a couple of its most popular titles inJujutsu KaisenandMy Hero Academia, both of which concluded after years of serialization. However, it hasn’t taken very long for a few new series to step in and begin generating excitement, one beingIchi the Witchby Osamu Nishi and Shiro Usazaki. The shōnen fantasy manga released its first volume earlier this year, and Japanese bookstores are reportedlyhaving trouble keeping copies on shelves.

International readership is also rather high for a newer series, signaling thatIchi the Witchmay just become manga’s next big thing. Set in a world where only women have the ability to become witches, male protagonist Ichi comes across the only evil Magik in the world that cannot be defeated by a woman. In besting that Magik, Ichi becomes the only male witch in history, and sets off on a journey to discover what his new identity will bring him.

Ichi the Witch Is Classic Shōnen Jump Done Right

Different series come and go in the pages ofShōnen Jump, many failing to be innovative enough to retain an audience. WhileIchi the Witchdoesn’t offer much that is revolutionary for its genre, the series hits on all the right notes. Starring a protagonist so typical of shōnen manga he could make Tanjiro blush, the story truly excels in itsworld building and the natural chemistry between its characters. The playful and highly entertaining banter between Ichi and his senior, the all-powerful Desscaras, is rather reminiscent of the classicRanma 1/2’s Akane and Ranma.

WhileDandadanis on its break, fans will be doing themselves a favor by checking out and supportingIchi the Witch. The series is only comprised of 20 chapters to this point, leaving readers ample time to get caught up with all the action.Shōnen Jump’s recently completed powerhouse titles have left some big shoes to fill, though it seems Osamu Nishi and Shiro Usazaki’s new seriesis taking its first steps towards filling them.
