The Miyagi-Do students may have made their way to the prestigious Sekai Taikai, but a daunting new challenge awaits them inCobra Kaiseason 6 part 2. Serving as the second installment ofCobra Kai’sthree-part final season, the show’s latest batch of episodes picks up after both the rival Miyagi Do and Cobra Kai dojos arrived in Barcelona for the international Sekai Taikai tournament. However, before the episodes’ recent streaming release, it was revealed thatMortal Kombatstar Lewis Tan would be joining theCobra Kaiseason 6 castas the sensei of another rival dojo.

Speaking withScreen Rant, series co-creator and showrunner Hayden Schlossberg explained how the introduction ofTan’s Sensei Wolf will shake up the show’s final season. Explaining that Schlossberg and his fellow showrunnerswanted to introduce a dojo that was renowned for winning the Sekai Taikai every year, they conceived of the new group of rivals as the karate equivalent of the NFL’s New England Patriots during the Tom Brady era. Comparing Tan’s character to renowned coach Bill Belichick, he said that his character is there to give the Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai competitors a“a run for their money.”Check out his comments below:

You know, one of the best parts of every season is introducing some new characters into the mix. We knew going into the Sekai Taikai we were going to meet all these characters from dojos overseas. And in our minds, we were like, “Well, there’s probably one dojo that’s the best of them all, that’s won year after year.” We jokingly, before we came up with the Iron Dragons, called them the Patriots, akin to the Tom Brady era. So, we were trying to find, “Well, who is the Bill Belichick of the Iron Dragons, who is the Tom Brady of the Iron Dragons?”

Because these were going to be the main new characters that are going to be antagonists, not just to our heroes in Miyagi-Do, but also to Cobra Kai, Kreese and Kim Da-Eun. Just when you think that it’s a showdown between these two dojos, you realize, “Wait a second, there’s a whole other dojo that wants to win this, in addition to a bunch of others.” When we wanted to figure out that character of Sensei Wolf, Lewis Tan just was highly recommended to us. He’s just that next-level martial artist himself that will give Daniel and Johnny a run for their money.

What Sensei Wolf’s Iron Dragons Mean For Cobra Kai’s Final Season

Cobra Kai’s Final Season Needed To Avoid Repeating Itself

Boasting consistently high ratings on review aggregator sites like Rotten Tomatoes,Cobra Kaihas become widely regarded asan exemplar of how studios should approach legacy sequel projects. Not only is Schlossberg’s show deeply respectful of the legacy ofthe originalKarate Kidmovies, but it has exceeded expectations in introducing a whole new generation of characters who are just as compelling as those played by franchise veterans Ralph Macchio and William Zabka.

Proving that not all conflicts can be solved via a karate tournament,Cobra Kai’snewest antagonists have the potential to deliver the show its most poignant lesson yet.

However, with the show already exhausting the potential offered by yet another return to the All-Valley tournament, the introduction ofthe Sekai Taikai provided the show’s final season with the ideal outletto expand beyond the constraints of previous seasons. Moreover, where once the emphasis had always been on the persistent rivalry between the show’s two main dojos, bringing in a more serious competitor like Sensei Wolf’s Iron Dragons casts an entirely different light on their local All-Valley spat.

Cobra Kai’s Final Season Can Do Something All Original Karate Kid Movies Failed To

Cobra Kai season 6 will conclude the legacy show with a three-part event, and it has the chance to fix one of the biggest Karate Kid mistakes.

If the show is to maintain its impressive and well-earned critical streak,Cobra Kai’s final seasonneeded to find a way toswitch up the frequently used conflict between Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai. Forcing the students of both dojos to confront a far more experienced and formidable group of opponents in the form of the Iron Dragons not only helps to introduce fresh ideas into an already well-established formula but could potentially deliver the show a finale worthy of its acclaimed streaming run.

Our Take On How The Iron Dragons Will Be Defeated

Most Viewers Are Already Expecting An Underdog Victory

WithCobra Kaialready drawing deeply on the legacy of the originalKarate Kidmovies, most audiences suspect that Miyagi-Do will somehow end up triumphantand win the Sekai Taikai, leaving Sensei Kreese’s Cobra Kai to finally be defeated once and for all. Echoing the same triumphant underdog tale first pioneered by Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso, many viewers would consider such an ending as a logical conclusion to the beloved series.

However, throughout its previous five seasons,Cobra Kaihas also shown that it is not afraid of taking the themes and events of the original movies and repurposing them in interesting and unexpected ways. As such, perhaps the best way forCobra Kaito conclude would be for both Miyagi Do and Cobra Kai to be rightfully defeated by another, far superior rival. Proving that not all conflicts can be solved via a karate tournament,Cobra Kai’snewest antagonists have the potential to deliver the show its most poignant lesson yet.
