Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm Dave Filoni has revealed in an interview that he is actively writingAhsokaseason 2 and described the upcomingStar Warsproject as"a challenge.“The list ofStar Wars’upcoming TV showsis surprisingly light at the moment, comprising solelyAhsokaseason 2 andAndorseason 2, asStar Wars: Skeleton Crewhas already released its first two episodes.Details aboutAhsokaseason 2have been under wraps, however, making this update from Filoni all the more exciting.

In a YouTube video shared byextratv, Dave Filoni spoke about his opinion onSkeleton Crew, the progress that has been made onThe Mandalorian & Grogu, and the status ofAhsokaseason 2. RegardingAhsokaseason 2, Filoni explained:

Anakin Skywalker from Attack of the Clones in front of the Mortis Gods statues on Peridea

“I’ve been writing it, and I’m still the single writer on it, so I’ve been enjoying doing that, but it’s a challenge, of course. Working some of these arcs through has been a challenge and making sure it’s all gonna, you know, come out in a way that I think is exciting for fans. I know that they’re interested in where some of the things I developed in season 1 go, but I’m pretty happy with it. I mean, we’ll see.”

Filoni is no doubt alluding to the many loose ends theAhsokaseason 1 endingintentionally left behind, among them the fate of Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren on Peridea, the threat of Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Baylan Skoll’s curious hunt for the Mortis Gods.

Ahsoka and Sabine look off into the galaxy in the Ahsoka finale.

What Dave Filoni’s Comments Mean For Ahsoka Season 2

Ahsoka Season 2 Has A Lot Of Ground To Cover

As Dave Filoni’s comments about the challenges he is currently facing withAhsokaseason 2 suggest, this new season ofAhsokahas significant ground to cover. For one, the titular hero is currently trapped on Peridea with her former (and presumably now current) Jedi Padawan Sabine Wren, having effectively traded places withGrand Admiral Thrawnand Ezra Bridger. This also means that Thrawn now poses a major threat to the galaxy, as he is clearly intent on revitalizing the Empire and bringing together Imperial sympathizers and remnants.

Ahsokaseason 1 also saw the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, not only with Anakin and Ahsoka’s encounter inthe World Between Worldsbut also with his surprising appearance at the very end of season 1 as a Force ghost. This in turn raises questions about whether Anakin could be an active character in season 2, as Force ghosts have proven to have quite a bit of autonomy and control in recent years. This, combined with the fact that Baylan Skoll seems to be after the Mortis Gods, means that Filoni has a massive undertaking on his hands.

This Convincing Theory Claims Ahsoka Season 2 Will Finally Solve The Greatest Anakin Skywalker Mystery

One of the most mysterious aspects of Anakin Skywalker’s Star Wars story may finally be revealed in the upcoming season of the Ahsoka show.

Our Take On Ahsoka Season 2

Ahsoka Season 2 Has So Much Potential And Few Limitations

While these myriad storylines are certainly a challenge for Filoni asAhsokaseason 2’s sole writer, they also represent incredible opportunities for the show. Given the show’s place intheStar Warstimeline, there is little limiting the storyAhsokaseason 2 could tell. Yes, the sequel trilogy comes afterAhsoka, but other than that, it’s unclear where many of these plot lines could go. Ahsoka’s fate inStar Warsremains unknown, as do the fates of Sabine and Ezra, and Anakin Skywalker’s role as a Force ghost is similarly undefined.

Likewise, Filoni undoubtedly has the freedom—and the authority—to sort out what part the Mortis Gods will play in the franchise moving forward. With so many moving pieces and (seemingly) so few blockages, thisStar Warsshow’s future is full of promise. As Dave Filoni’s comments suggest,Ahsokaseason 2 is no doubt going to be full of exciting updates to season 1’s major story arcs, and that work is already well underway.
