CBS' newSherlock Holmesseries,Watson, has received a definitive release date alongside a first image of star Morris Chestnut as the titular detective. Loosely based onArthur Conan Doyle’sSherlock Holmesstories, the forthcoming CBS series sees Watson open up a clinic treating rare diseases, six months after the death of Holmes at the hands of his nemesis, Moriarty. The mystery show will be CBS' second series about the detective, the first beingElementaryfrom 2012 through 2019, although the two shows are not connected.

Conan Doyle’s famous detective stories have been adapted in various media over the years, including theBBC’s memorableSherlockand the duology of movies starring Robert Downey Jr.Watsonoffers a different perspective,with the titular detective stepping into the spotlight as he faces off against Moriarity, who isn’t done with his torment. Alongside Chestnut, the cast ofWatsonincludes Rochelle Aytes as Watson’s ex-wife Mary Morstan, Peter Mark Kendall as twin surgeons Stephens and Adam Croft, Eve Harlow as neurologist Ingrid Derian, Inga Schlingmann as immunology specialist Sasha Lubbock, and Ritchie Coster as administrative aide Shinwell Johnson.

The medical setting invokes similarities toHouse, which was inspired by Conan Doyle’s detective, but with its own flair because of its focus character. Given the show will be arriving in just a few short months, it won’t be long until Chestnut and the rest of the cast bring a new version of the franchise to life.
