Warning: Spoilers for Storm #7Captain America’ssuper-soldier serum is one of the most important scientific mysteries in the Marvel Universe, but a new X-Men comic has shown that when it goes wrong, it can transform a living being into something much closer to theHulk. There’s a long history of people trying to make more versions of Cap, so it makes sense that at least a few experiments went very wrong.
In the preview forStorm#7 by Murewa Ayodele and Luciano Vecchio, Storm fightsa gigantic snake mutated by “tainted super-soldier serum,“and the resulting creature is more reminiscent of the Hulk’s gamma powers than many of Cap’s imitators.

Ever since Captain America’s super-soldier serum was lost shortly after Cap’s empowerment, there have been numerous programs that have attempted to recreate the process, and clearly this snake has been subjected to one of them. The question is how it ended up loose in the jungle, and what Storm’s latest adventure has to do with it.
The Latest Super-Soldier Serum Monster Looks Less Like Captain America Than a Hulked-Out Animal
Storm#7 by Murewa Ayodele, Luciano Vecchio, Alex Guimarães, Fernando Sifuentes, and Travis Lanham
When readers think of gigantic souped-up creatures in the Marvel Universe, their mind probably first turns to gamma monsters like the Hulk. In contrast to the (admittedly vague) science of the super-soldier serum, gamma is both scientific and magical, both part of nature andderived from the “below-place,“the hell-like foundation at the bottom of Marvel’s multiverse.Scientists have tried to replicate the Hulk just as much as they have Captain America, so it’s also easy to imagine that this mutant snake could even be related to gamma as well.
Captain America’s New Series Will Explore an Untouched Era of Steve Roger, Fulfilling a MCU Wish
As Captain America prepares for an exciting new era, writer Chip Zdarsky promises fans will get a new look at a fascinating point in Cap’s life.
There’s also a chance that this snake is actually part of a super-soldier program that readers have heard of before.New X-Men#128 by Grant Morrison and Igor Kordey introduced the idea that Wolverine was called Weapon X because the program that fused his skeleton with adamantium was the tenth (“X” being the Roman numeral for ten) in a line of projects attempting to recreate Captain America:the Weapon Plus program. As that issue shows, Weapon II-III experimented solely on animals, so it’s entirely possible that this giant snake came fromone of those old “weapon” programs.

The Marvel Universe Can Easily Handle a Hulk x Captain America “Crossover” Like This
Cap’s Relatives Can Show Up Anywhere
If this new abomination shows anything concrete, however, it’s how the Marvel Universe works best when it’s interconnected. Morrison’s conception of Weapon Plus also exemplifies this idea. Older villains like Nuke were retconned into the Weapon Plus program, and stories ever since have continued to do so, even tying Venom to the dark history of these failed experiments, among other characters. The Marvel Universe is so intertwined that something related toCaptain Americacan show up in a Storm story looking like aHulkvillain, and it makes perfect sense.
Storm#7is available April 9th, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
Captain America
Initially debuting in 1940, Captain America is the patriotically themed superhero who has shared the title with only a few individuals. Beginning with Steve Rogers, Captain America’s birth resulted from a frail man taking part in an experimental U.S. Army super-soldier trial, which imbued him with super-human abilities. The character is often depicted wielding a nigh unbreakable and aerodynamic shield made of vibranium that they use to defend and attack their foes.
Hulk
The Hulk, a Marvel Comics superhero created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, is physicist Bruce Banner transformed by gamma radiation. He morphs into a giant, green-skinned creature of immense strength and invulnerability when angered. Struggling with his transformations, Hulk allies with other heroes, battling villains while balancing his intellect with uncontrollable rage, making him a central figure in Marvel’s universe.
