Bosch’s new Renée Ballard spinoff has seemingly received an official title and logo in a new behind-the-scenes photo from series star Maggie Q. Q is set to be introduced as Ballard in theupcomingBosch: Legacyseason 3, which will see the detective step onscreen for the first time. The character comes from Michael Connelly’s book series of the same name, having crossed over with Bosch various times throughout the author’s work. Amazon recently announced she would be getting a spinoff following her debut in the parent show.
Now, on Instagram,Qposted a photo on the set of the newBoschspinoff series, alongside Mitzi Hartert-Roberts, the real-life detective who helped inspire Connelly to create Renée Ballard. The image also features set chairs withBallardin all caps, seemingly confirming the show’s name. The lettering is red except for the “LA” in the middle, which appears to be black and white. Bosch’s Renée Ballard spinoffwill follow Q’s lead character as she run the LAPD’s Cold Case Division, an underfunded part of the force that leads to unique investigations.Filming for the spinoff began in July 2024, with Connelly serving as produceralongsideBosch: Legacyproducers Michael Alaimo, Kendall Sherwood, and Trish Hofmann. Cast members will include John Carroll Lynch as Thomas Laffont, Courtney Taylor as Samira Parker, and four undisclosed characters portrayed by Rebecca Field, Amy Hill Victoria Moroles, and Michael Mosley.

Both Bosch and Bosch: Legacy feature amazing characters and character development but out of the entire franchise, only 10 characters stand out.
While not much is known about the story yet,Connelly hinted that Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) may return, following the end ofBosch: Legacyin season 3. If this happens,Ballardseason 1 could involve a passing of the torch, with Q’s character stepping up in similar ways the previous character in the franchise would have. However, her leadership in cold case investigations means her approach to the law will be much different, making theBoschspinoff seriesstand out thanks to its fresh face and atmosphere.

The Show Is Taking After Its Predecessor
Much like howBoschemployed the last name of its protagonist for the series' actual name as well,Ballardwill be doing the same, reflecting its connection to the Welliver-led series. However, the show will clearly be different as well, illustrated by Hartert-Roberts' presence, the real detective having appeared in the franchise before. With plenty of mystery still surrounding the series, this title tease and confirmation of who’s involved makes for a perfect hint about what to expect when the show finally arrives.
