What This Means For The Conjuring Universe
The Franchise Still Has A Future
Farmiga’s tribute to Wilson signals that this is truly the end of an era for TheConjuringUniverse. However, itdoes not necessarily mean that the franchise is ending. While there has been no follow-up officially announced, there are more projects in development based onEd and Lorraine Warren’s cases, including a Max series set after the events of the movies that was announced in April 2023. It is also possible that moreAnnabelleandThe Nunsequels could grace the screen.
ThreeAnnabellemovies have premiered between 2014 and 2019, while the twoNunfilms premiered in 2018 and 2023 respectively.

It is also possible that Ed and Lorraine Warren could return in these potential upcoming projects in some capacity. They have appeared in many of the other spinoff movies, either via stock footage or new scenes. Even if one or both of them die inLast Rites, the fact thatthe majority of the spinoffs have been prequelscould allow them ample in-universe opportunities to appear.
Our Take On Vera Farmiga’s Conjuring Comments
Ed And Lorraine Warren’s Story May Be Truly Over
Even thoughThe Conjuring: Last Ritesmay not end up being the final appearance of Ed and Lorraine Warren in theConjuringmovies, for the time being, it seems that Farmiga is seeing this movie as a victory lap for the characters. While her heartfelt post seems to indicate that she is not ready to leave the Warrens behind, her appreciation for the characters may extend to the point thatshe might not want to needlessly extend their onscreen appearances if they are given a satisfying endingin the new movie.
