Below Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 has been difficult thus far, but with Emma Crouch being fired andher replacement Chase Lemacks changing the exterior team, things are already improving for the series. Chase, who first appeared onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4as one of the deckhands on the crew of Parsifal III, had an interesting first season on the series. While he was working hard aboard the charter sailing yacht, Chase was contending with First Officer Gary King who had some intense drama during the last season of the series.
Gary, who’s been part ofBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 2, has been a longtime member of the crew, and his issues with Chase were apparent quickly on the show. Gary’s animosity toward Chase drew out a lot of his drama throughoutBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4, but his expertise on deck and his charming personality worked to make him a genuine part of the crew. Despite the fact that Gary had some issues with the deck team member,Chase was able to stand out to viewers as a great part of the season.

WithBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5different than its predecessors, things have felt odd throughout the current season. With Colin Macrae, the Parsifal III’s longtime Chief Engineer, having left the show after the last season and Gary getting less screentime than ever due to some scandalous behavior outside the show, everything has been off-kilter. Emma, who was part of the deck team from the beginning of the season, struggled through the beginning charters, but her time aboard Parsifal III was up quickly when she didn’t meet Gary’s expectations. Thankfully,Chase has swooped in to take over.
8Chase Has More Experience
He’s Been Part Of The Crew Before
Although Emma claims to have yachting industry experience, she’s been one of the biggest issues withBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5. While there have been a lot of issues within the crew, the major issues in the exterior team came from the mistakes within Emma’s work. Emma struggled with a variety of issues, but whileGary was her direct superior, he didn’t provide her with much feedback when it came to the problems he was seeing with her work. While he was tough to work with on deck, Gary didn’t give Emma the input to succeed.
While Emma may not have come into Parsifal III with a ton of experience,Chasewas an experienced yachtie when he came intoBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4. Now, as he’s returning toBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5,Chase has made it clear immediately that he knows what he’s doing. Taking direction well and working with the rest of the team, Chase’s been able to make strides with the exterior team.

7Chase Works Better With Gary Than Emma Did
He Knows Gary From Last Season
AsEmma worked through the first chartersof the season, her abilities were called into question often and she felt isolated from the rest of the Parsifal III’s deck team because of that distrust. Emma didn’t have much of a rapport with Gary when she came into the season, and as their working relationship continued to shift, Emma’s abilities made it clear that the pair weren’t going to get along. Throughout the charter season,Gary and Emma clashed, and he ignored in her an incredibly obvious waythroughout her time with the crew.

WhileChase and Gary have clashed in the past, the pair also share a working relationship that is functional, albeit frustrating at times. Gary, who’s been a fixture onBelow Deck Sailing Yacht, has been able to make it clear that his work with Chase may not be his favorite time aboard Parsifal III, but he respects that Chase is knowledgeable and understands what he’s doing. Chase’s abilities are great, andhis relationship with Gary makes it easier for him to function as a part of the crew.
6Chase Understands Gary’s Work Ethic More Than Emma
He Grasps How To Work With Gary
Although Emma did her best to predict Gary’s moves and moods, she wasn’t able to figure him out during her time aboard Parsifal III. Emma’s lack of experience and misunderstanding of the position she was in made it hard for Gary to respect her work, especially with his extreme work ethic. His consistency aboard Parsifal III was in major contrast with Emma’s sometimes lackadaisical but intense nature, andthe pair weren’t able to see eye-to-eye about responsibilities.
While Chase isn’t quitethe same level of a workhorse as Garyis, he has a very similar work ethic to theBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 First Officer. Despite knowing that Chase has his faults, Gary seems to trust Chase inherently with the responsibilities he knows the deckhand is capable of taking on. With Chase and Gary working well together,it’s clear Chase understands the work ethic he’s trying to meet on board.
5Chase Is A Hard Worker
He’s Got A Great Work Ethic
Even asChase moved through his issuesonBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4, it was clear that he knew more about how to work through his issues on the sailing yacht and make things run smoothly for the deck team. Rarely causing trouble,Chase made it clear that he was on Parsifal III to work, enjoying his time as a deckhand. While he had a few interpersonal conflicts on board, Chase was praised as one of the hardest-working yachties on the crew in the last season.
Coming back forBelow DeckSailing Yachtseason 5, Chase is showing that he’s got an incredible work ethic as he moves through the first few charters of his season. While he’s joining the crew mid-season,Chase hasn’t seemed to have some of the common issues other yachties face coming into the season late. Despite knowing that he’ll have a bit more adversity than the rest of the yachties on Parsifal III, Chase hasn’t seemed to let his late start deter him.
4Chase Can Handle His Emotions
He Knows How To Be Professional
While she was going through some stressful situations, one of the issues Emma had throughout her time onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 was the mismanagement of her emotions on the show.Emma was struggling during her timeon the sailing yacht, and her issues made it clear that she wasn’t sure how to regulate her emotions when she was in a high-pressure situation. With Gary ignoring her and her work getting the best of her,Emma seemed to be having a hard time understanding how to keep herself grounded, which is critical on a deck crew.
Even though Chase had a bit of drama throughout his first charter season onBelow Deck Sailing Yacht, his time aboard was far more about his work than his personal issues.Chase is familiar with the yachtie lifestyle, so he knows it includes its fair share of drama, but he’s been able to balance his work well. Though Chase has been doing his best to jump into the crew, it’s refreshing to see him stick out a bit with his lack of drama and high work ethic.
3Chase Is Above The Drama Of Below Deck Sailing Yacht
He’s Seen BDSY Dramatics Up Close
Below Deck Sailing Yachtand theotherBelow Deckfranchise showsaren’t typical yachting experiences, and although the yachties are signing up to be on a reality TV show, they also have to work their typical jobs while doing so. The pressure ofBelow Deckcan be a lot for the yachties, especially those like Emma who aren’t used to the work or the reality TV aspect. With a much higher pressure level than a typical yachting experience, Emma wasn’t ready for the drama that came with being a yachtie on reality TV.
While Chase may not be a fixture on reality TV, his time onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4 was a great primer for his experiences onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5.Chase’s time on the previous season of the series was a huge deal as he wasn’t someone who had been on reality TV in the past, but was someone who understood the yachting industry. Coming back to the show for a second charter season, he knows the ropes and understands how to keep his head above the drama.
2Chase Will Be Able To Handle Any Crew Issues
He’ll Know How To Deal With The Crew
Although Chase’s abilities are a major part of why he wasasked back forBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 when Emma exited the crew, his ability to deal with crew drama was a close second. While someone onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtdoesn’t necessarily need to know how to handle drama, being able to rise above it or engage in it without it impacting the work is helpful.Chase was able to do a great job moving throughBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4, but his abilities will likely serve him even future this season.
While Chase looks like he’ll have to deal with some drama on his own throughout the rest of the season, he’ll also have the opportunity work through some of the crew’s drama with them. It’s clearChase is able to mediate some big issues, and will likely be doing so within his team and the crew at large. Chase may be working with Gary, Daisy Kelliher, and some of the rest of the crew to make things a bit more peaceful.
1Chase Has Been On The Show In The Past
He’s Already Dealt With The Pressure Of Below Deck Sailing Yacht
While Chase’s experience is already a great plus, the fact that he understands the pressures ofBelow Deck Sailing Yachtis a major advantage that ensures he’ll be far more effective than Emma. WhileEmma wasn’t prepared for the pressures thatBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 would bring, she also wasn’t open to working through the issues she was facing on board. Emma’s inability to roll with the proverbial punches of the series made things rough for her.
ThoughChase hasn’t been a yachtie for much longer than Emma, he’sbeen onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtin the past and understands how much harder he has to work to be a part of the show. From his great work ethic to his undeniable skills and his overwhelming charisma, Chase is going to be the replacement that Gary and the rest of the exterior team were looking for. Even thoughBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 is set to have more issues, Chase will be able to work through them with an ease Emma couldn’t have provided.
