The trailer opens abruptly, establishing the vast wilderness setting wherein Azrael is captured by a cult. Further glimpses of the cult show the group guarding their houses with secret traps, crafting twig-constructed crucifixes on trees, and practicing intense religious rituals. Text on screen reveals that “After the rapture, those who survive, will suffer in silence.” The trailer then delves into Azrael’s terrifying capture, in which she has to fight for her life against the cult, and against demons that stalk her. The trailer also confirmedthe film’s release date to be September 27.

With these various elements at play,Azraellooks to be a fascinating entry into the 2024 horror slate.
Another compelling aspect of the film is its star, Weaving. Theactor previously appeared inReady or Not, where she plays a bride whose wedding night turns into something far more sinister.Ready or Notwas extremely successfulupon its 2019 release, receiving positive reviews and a good profit. Made on an estimated $6 million budget,Ready or Notended up raking in roughly $57.6 million at the global box office. The film’s success was a big deal for Weaving, who broke out more into the mainstream with the horror film.
