Astro Bot Will Have Players Dancing With Crash Bandicoot & Fighting With Horizon Weapons

An Evolution Of Astro’s Playroom’s Many PlayStation Cameos

Team Asobi is no stranger to using cameos, as its previous gameAstro’s Playroomwas chock-full of Easter eggsusing little bot versions of popular PlayStation characters. These characters mostly just stand around, waiting to be found by the player. The new trophy list suggests that this time, the PlayStation bots will play a more active role inAstro Bot.

Several of the trophies make playful references to PlayStation titles. There’s a trophy for defeating ravens in “Bot of War” (God of War), collecting eggs in “Dude Raiding” (Tomb Raider) busting a move with an “iconic marsupial” in “Crash Site” (Crash Bandicoot) and more. Another trophy requires players to defeat a certain number of enemies with the Tripcasterweapon fromHorizon Zero Dawn.

Other trophies indicate thatAstro Botwill send Astro on adventures through other games' worlds. In one instance, players will have to catch a gold butterfly in “Apes On The Loose” (Ape Escape). The “Crash Site” referenced in several trophy descriptions may be related toCrash Bandicoot(further confirmed by the trophy mentioned above about a certain “iconic marsupial”). The latter detail is especially noteworthy, since theCrash Bandicootlicense is now owned by Microsoft, not PlayStation.

Team Asobi’s long-standing relationship with Sony as a first-party studio means that fans can expect to see quite a few familiar names. In addition to the ones directly referenced in the trophy list,Astro Botwill have cameos fromUncharted, Ico, Ratchet & Clank, and other popular PlayStation titles.Astro Botreleases on September 6 as a PS5 exclusive.
