Intel is everything inAssassin’s Creed Shadows, and you won’t get very far without a good team of scouts. Many missions won’t provide you with the exact location of their objectives; you’ll instead get a bigger general area, and be encouraged to deploy scouts to search the region. Scouts may provide you with more precise quest markers, or even a series of clues as to a target’s location within a wider area. you may also assign your scouts to cart heavy resources from enemy strongholdsback to your own hideout.
Either way, they’re a necessary tool - and you only have a limited number of scouts. Although you may recruit more scoutsthroughout the course of the game,you’ll always have a maximum number that you can deploy at any one given time. However, your available scouts will refresh under certain conditions. Being ready for those refreshes and deploying your scouts with good timing are key to success inAC Shadows. Here’s when to expect your available scouts to refresh.
Scouts Reset Each Season
Every 2 Hours Or So
Perhaps the easiest (if infrequent) way to reset your available scouts is towait for the seasons to change.Assassin’s Creed Shadowshas a rotating system of seasons that impact the weather and the passage of time. Each time the seasons change, any scouts you’ve deployed return to your hideout, and you’re able to send them out once again to gather intel or retrieve materials. In other words, if you’re out of scouts, you may just want to kill some time on sidequests.
One Game-Changing Mode May Have Saved Assassin’s Creed Shadows For Me
Assassin’s Creed Shadows features a game-changing mode that may have not only fixed its story issues but also changed my opinion of the game.
Seasonal changes occur about once every two hours in-game, but can’t be reliably triggered. If you’re wondering whether you’re due for a new season, check your map screen; there’ll be an option to “Change Seasons” in the top-right corner, just beneath the compass. Hold right on the D-Pad or fast travel anywhere to move time forward. Seasons may also change at certain points within the story, too, but those are much harder to trigger.
Completing Some Quests & Random Encounters Resets Scouts
Scouts As A Reward
In addition,finishing certain quests will also grant you an extra scout slot inAssassin’s Creed Shadows. This is most common with random encounters, but may be true of certain story missions as well. If it happens, you’ll be informed as your scout counters appear on-screen after completing the mission.
As you exploreAC Shadows' take on feudal Japan, you may randomly encounter NPCs who make requests of you - you’ll hear their dialgue as you pass on the road. You’ll usually have to do a brief, one-step quest for them - say, killing a bandit who’s extorting a toll out of them, or giving them honest advice on their cooking, andthey’ll offer you a choice of rewards:
If you choose World Rumor, they’ll reveal a local objective or location for you, helping to fill in part of your map. Butif you choose Scout Intel, they’ll effectively become a temporary, additional scoutfor the remainder of the current season, refilling one of your scout slots automatically.
You Can Reset Scouts At Your Hideout
Buying More Scouts
Finally, if all else fails,you can refresh your available scouts at your hideout. This is easily the most reliable way to refresh your available scouts, but it’ll cost you. You’ll find a small bundle hanging from the wall in your main kakurega building - interact with it, and you’ll have the opportunity to pay 200 mon to gain an additional scout for the current season. You can do this as many times as you need, so if you have the cash, your scouts are effectively infinite.
You can refresh scouts in your main hideout at Izumi Settsu, as well as at the various smaller kakurega you can unlock in cities throughout the game. Each kakurega typically goes for 800 mon, and gives you a new fast travel point along with a couple of basic resources. You can use these mini-kakurega to refill your rations and tools, or to refresh your scouts periodically.

I found it best tobuy up as many kakurega as possible. The fast travel points alone are worth the price, but the convenience of having a home base in every city to refill all your major resources is unparalleled.
Getting more scouts is all well and good, but knowing when to use them and how to refresh them is arguably more important. Timing your scout sorties around seasonal refreshes, and strategically using Scount Intel rewards when available will keep your scout supply fresh throughout the entirety ofAssassin’s Creed Shadows- just verify you’re actively recruiting, too.
