Getting monkeys into your Hideout inAssassin’s Creed Shadowsmight be more challenging than it looks at first, as it is hard to get the right circumstances to get the macaques into your game. You will have to get to the right place at the right time in order to find them,and that can be tricky due to the seasonal nature of the game. However, it is well worth it to get one of these cute macaques into your Hideout to hang out with whenever you want.
There are a lot ofpets you can have inAssassin’s Creed Shadows, each of them with their own benefits. You will have to do a lot of exploration to find them,and they aren’t marked on the mapso you will have to discover many of them on your own. However, I have tracked downhow to get the monkeysso you can have them in your Hideout as well.
How To Unlock Monkeys For Your Hideout In Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Finding The Macaques At The Right Time
Getting the monkeys is going to be the biggest challenge. For most of the other animals inAssassin’s Creed Shadows,you can go up to pet them, and it will automatically unlock the animal for your Hideout. This is the case with most of the cats and dogs that you can find. However, there are exceptions. If you find macaques out in the wild,you will be unable to pet themand they will run away.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has wide variety of legendary weapons found in each major region, earned from completing quests, hidden chests, and more.
However, you can find them in other ways. There is a chance, and I have seen other players find them,that you can buy more exotic pets like macaques from Ornamental Vendors. This is not a guarantee,as the vendors change their stock with every season, and it is hard to pin down which one might have it at any given time. You can take your chances fast traveling from city to city, but there is a more guaranteed way to get the macaques.
Junjiro inAssassin’s Creed Shadowswill be the first one to teach youhow to do a sumi-e painting in the prologue of the game. To do it, you will have to sneak up onto the target and use your observation skill at exactly the right distance before the animal spots you and runs away.You will have to be very quiet, but it is possible.
To get a macaque, you will have tofind the sumi-e painting spot for the Grooming Macaques. These spots are not marked on the map either, so you have to come across it fairly naturally. To find it, the map in the images above shows the spot, but you will have toreach the Yamashiro region. Once you do, head north of the two small islands until you reach the Kiyomizudera Pagoda Synchronization Point.
There’s a path behind the tower that you may see the temple from.Follow it down and to the right, following along a small creek. Almostdirectly to the southeast of the Synchronization Point, you should be able to see the monkeys on a hill. However, there are two main things you will have to ensure are true to succeed:
If the above are true, the sumi-e painting symbol should pop up as you pass by the spot. To have the best chance of sneaking up on them,continue along the path just before the fence starts and cross the creek further downand out of sight of the macaques. Once you are on the other side, drop into the prone position and start crawling until you get close enough,sticking to the tall grass when possible.
If it’s not Summer or Daytime, you’re able to use fast-travel to speed up time.Sometimes you canchange the season, and sometimes you cannot, so pay attention to what season it is in the upper right corner of the map screen.
Once you are close enough, you’re able to get the painting, andit will unlock the macaque as a pet. You can then fast-travel back to the Hideout.

The Benefits Of Having Monkeys
The Monkeys are a decorative item, so there’s no “benefit” to grabbing them, but they are absolutely adorable. Once you return to theHideout inAssassin’s Creed Shadows,choose “Build” mode and cycle through the menu until you get to the decorative items. You will likely have a few cats and dogs here too. At that point, you can select them, place them down in a box, and then go visit them to see what they’re up to.You can place as many as you like, so go absolutely wild if you want to.
There are some Legendary monkeys you’re able to go find as well, but those will be harder to find. You can only place one of those when you find them, but they can join your army of macaques that you’ll keep around.I heard other players say they could pet the wild animalsin the Hideout, but I didn’t get that prompt, so that might be a glitch for me, but it would be delightful if you could pet your newly acquired monkeys inAssassin’s Creed Shadows.
