A recent trailer for theDragon Quest 1&2 HD-2D Remakeincluded a quick tease about a new party member added in this version of the game. This has fueled some speculation online regarding who this new character could be. While there wasn’t much information given in the trailer, I’m pretty sure I have a read on which character this is.
Even without adding new content to the game, theDragon Quest 1&2 HD-2D Remakewould still be an exciting prospect. I love how the art style - also used forlast year’sDragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake- preserves the retro feeling of the game while still updating it to feel modern, and the result is gorgeous. It’s similar to what Square Enix did withtheFinal Fantasy Pixel Remasterseries, but theDragon Questgames take things even a step further.I’m looking forward to trying out the next remake, and seeing if my prediction is right.

Dragon Quest 1&2 Remake Tease A New Character
Dragon Quest’s Latest Trailer Shows A New Party Member For Dragon Quest 2
The recenttrailerforDragon Quest 1&2 HD-2D Remakegave us a quick glance ata new character joining the partyinthe remake ofDragon Quest 2.Near the end of the trailer, there is a quick scene showing a woman approaching the Prince of Midenhall and striking a pose, and she then appears alongside the three Luminaries in the promotional art for the game. I’m excited to see how a fourth party member shakes things up gameplay wise in the remake.
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: 10 Best Friendly Monsters & How To Catch Them
Players can recruit friendly monsters in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake that can give them an advantage in battles or help heal them in dire situations.
In the original version ofDragon Quest 2, you only get three party members: The Prince of Midenhall, the Prince of Cannock, and the Princess of Moonbrooke, a warrior, a priest, and mage, respectively. While there was some utility with how you built the Prince of Cannock, adding a fourth party member will allow for some new party dynamics. I’ll be interested to see if she’s as locked in her class as the Prince of Midenhall and Princess of Moonbrooke, or if she’s more flexible. I’m also curious about how she will play into the story, though I have an idea.

The New Character Is Most Likely The Princess Of Cannock
The Princess Of Cannock Is A Descendant Of Edrick Like The Other Party Members
In the original version ofDragon Quest 2,the Prince of Cannock’s sister also wishes to join the quest. She is, after all, a descendant of Edrick, just like the three Luminaries, but she is told by her brother she isn’t allowed to come with. As another known descendant of Edrick, it would make sense for her to join the party, and, depending on her abilities, her relative age wouldn’t hold her back much. I’ve seen speculation that this new character will be a thief, and Bilbo Baggins showed us that being small is a big advantage for a burglar.
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: How To Complete The Temple Of Trials
The Temple of Trials is Dragon Quest 3’s final (and hardest) postgame dungeon. Here’s how to unlock and complete it in the HD-2D remake.
There’s also the possibility that the remake could simply age up the Princess of Cannockto be a similar age to her cousins. The promotional art for the game does make the four party members all look similar in age, and the new character’s sprite in the gameplay footage looks similar to the Prince of Midenhall’s. Speaking of her sprite, the new character’s in-game appearance is another strong hint that she is likely the Princess of Cannock.

Color Scheme & The Original Game Are Both Clues
The New Character Looks Similar To The Prince Of Cannock
One of the biggest tips towards the identity of the new character is her appearance. She has blonde hair, wears green and yellow clothing, and has a red jewel as a fastener for her cloak. The Prince of Cannock similarly wears green clothing, a yellow cloak, and has a large red gem set into his shield. Each of the original party members looks distinctly different from one another to represent the different kingdoms they come from. This new character, looking so similar to the Prince of Cannock, seems like a clear indication that the two are likely related.
I’m not the only one who has made this connection, asI’ve seen quite a bit of speculation from fans that the Princess of Cannock will be joining the party. It’s worth noting that, although some sources are reporting this as official, the trailer doesn’t definitively state that this is the Princess of Cannock, and neither does the game’s official website. That said, it would honestly be a bit strange if that isn’t who it is, as she fits the bill so perfectly.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: How To Get The Ultimate Key
In Dragon Quest 3, players will need to explore the world to acquire the Ultimate Key in order to open any locked door around the entire map.
Although there is no official release date yet forDragon Quest 1&2 HD-2D Remake, it is supposed to have a 2025 release window. Although we may get confirmation about whom the fourth party member is before the game is released, I wouldn’t be surprised if Square Enix just made us all wait to play the actual game to find out. Still, I, and a lot of people frankly, are pretty confident it’s the Princess of Cannock.
