A newFallout RPGis coming out in 2026, offering solo players a unique tabletop experience while exploring the post-apocalyptic wasteland. The Fallout franchise is experiencing an unexpected surge in popularity thanks to theFalloutTV series, which explores the origins of the infamous Vault-Tec while also showcasing a unique post-apocalyptic world. AlthoughFallout 5is not expected forseveral more yearsat minimum, a new solo Fallout RPG might scratch the itch of fans looking to dig deeper into that world, although they’ll need to be ready for some solo TTRPG play to do so.
This week, Modiphius announcedLone Wanderer, a newFallouttabletop RPG meant for solo play. The game will procedurally generate a story for solo players without a new GM, allowing them to explore the wasteland after they emerge from a Vault-Tec vault. Players will also be able to play as other kinds ofFalloutcharacters, including survivors, ghouls, super mutants, and robots. The game will use Modiphius’s 2D20 system and will be released in 2026.

What You Need To Know About The Fallout TTRPG
Fallout RPG Uses A 2D20 System And Captures Many Of Fallout’s Systems
Outside the video games, Modiphius’sFallout Roleplaying Gameis one of the best ways to experience theFalloutfranchise. UnlikeDungeons & Dragons, which uses a D20 system that involves trying to roll equal to or higher than a certain number, theFallout TTRPGuses a 2D20 system in which players roll two twenty-sided dice to get below a certain number. The game also brings over many other systems from theFalloutgames, intending to make it as familiar a feeling to video games as possible.
I’m Worried Avowed Will Repeat The Same Mistake As Fallout
There are some similarities between the Fallout series and Avowed that have me a little nervous about what the future of the series could hold.
Modiphius also has plans to expand itsFallout RPGline, with more books that delve further into the history and geography of different parts of the Wastelands.New books are planned to explore New California and the Mojave, the Capital Wasteland, the Commonwealth, and the Appalachian Wasteland. No release dates were provided for any of these new books, but it seems like the plan is to continue growing theFallout RPGline for the foreseeable future.

Our Take: Solo RPGs Could Be Fun, Especially One Involving Ghouls And Fallout’s Wasteland
Fallout Is The Right Kind Of World For A Solo RPG
I’ve played Modiphius’sCaptain Log, which is a solo TTRPG that uses the publisher’sStar Trek Adventuresgame system. While I’m generally not a fan of solo games,Captain’s Logwas a lot of fun and kept me engaged while playing. I think the system will be even better for theFallout RPG,as the world is a bit smaller but also has a lot more empty spacesthat can be explored without stepping on the toes of the official canon. If you’re aFalloutfan, you should keep an eye out forLone Wandererwhen it comes out next year.
