A Sequel toCyberpunk:Edgerunnersis Unlikely

Even thoughCyberpunk: Edgerunnerswas supposed to be a limited series, it seems that its massive popularity and success has finally pushed Netflix and CD Projekt Red to expand on its universe with this new animation project. Though fans have been eager for a sequel, it seems unlikely that the new project will be one as David’s story has been concluded, and Studio Trigger has already stated that they have no plans of producing a sequel.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' Creator Gets Manga Serialized On Shonen Jump

The creator and writer of Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has released a manga that will be published by Shonen Jump and Manga Plus.

More likely than not, the newCyberpunkanime will have a completely new story centering around a different set of characters. It is unclear which animation studio will be in charge of the new anime, though fans can only hope that the new series maintains the same quality of animation that originally madeCyberpunk: Edgerunnersas popular as it was.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunner’s Success Made Its Return Inevitable

Though the announcement of the new anime came as a surprise to fans, given the success of the original series it was only a matter of time until Netflix revised the franchise. Netflix has been having plenty of success with its animated projects as of late andCyberpunk: Edgerunnerswas one of its first big hits in that regard, amassing a total of 47.75 million hours of watchtime.

The series has received plenty of critical acclaim and a new story with fresh new characters instead of a sequel is the best possible route Netflix could have taken with the franchise, as this would avoid running the original series' magnificent ending. All the same, the new anime has some big shoes to fill and only time will tell whether Netflix will be able to doCyberpunk: Edgerunnersjustice.
