Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s story altered so drastically from the originalFinal Fantasy 7,its open ending could lead Cloud Strife and his companions anywhere in the world. While there are story beats from the original game the plot is likely to follow, there are definitely changes to be explored inFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3which could completely shift the expected route of the narrative.

Players may want to see some of the classic and iconic events unfold inPart 3, such as the reunion in the Northern Crater, the trip toFF7’s Rocket Town, or the hunt for the Huge Materia, but with so many options at Square Enix’s fingertips to really shake up the story, players can expect some major twists to really catch them off guard.

Final Fantasy 7 Cloud Strife and Tseng in front of Safer Sephiroth

10WEAPONS Of The Multiverse

Sephiroth Must Face WEAPONS From Across All Worlds

In the originalFinal Fantasy 7timeline, Gaia’s response to Sephiroth’s harnessing of the planet’s energy is to release its organic defense, the WEAPONs. Unfortunately for the rest of the planet’s population, Sephiroth hid himself in the Northern Crater and the WEAPONs traveled the world trying to reduce the amount of Mako escaping the planet’s veins.Rebirthhas already debuted two new WEAPONsin the lifestream confronting Sephiroth. This may be an indication of a twist in the future ofPart 3.

10 Iconic Bosses Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 Should Include

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth included a number of the original game’s boss fights, but there are still some iconic fights needed for Part 3.

Sephiroth’s grand scheme far exceeds one single timeline. His infiltration into multiple timelines implies a way to harness the life-force of every world, in whichhe may already have been successful due to the number of dying multiverse timelines experienced by Zack Fair. To combat this, a governing stream between the multiple Gaia’s may have its own organically created WEAPONs to counter such a destructive force, which can not only span timelines, but also become a major threat to Cloud and the party as the WEAPONs follow the same path as the original - subdue any leaking of the lifestream.

9Zack Joins The Prime Timeline

Two SOLDIERs Are Better Than One

The final battle against Sephiroth inRebirthtakes place across a number of timelines, as well as the limbo between worlds. Cloud, Barret Wallace and the party, and Zack areforced to combat different forms of Sephiroth, unknowingly supporting each other’s battles due to the shared damage each Sephiroth suffers. Cloud and Zack can even sense each other’s presence, fighting as one. With the fight concluded, one of the Zacks who survived is saved at the last moment before Sephiroth can kill him, his fate left unknown.

Zack’s popularity in theFinal Fantasy 7franchise could see him being whisked away to the prime timeline, to join Cloud and the party in the final leg against Sephiroth. Whether he joins the party officially or creates his own sub-squad ofotherFF7charactersto tackle challenges Cloud and company are unable to is yet to be seen, but his role inPart 3within the prime timeline will completely change the direction of the plot, giving Gaia one more heroic figure fighting for its survival.

8Cloud Loses The Trust Of His Friends

He Must Fight For Their Trust

Even after Cloud’s tragic twist in the Northern Craterand his gifting of the Black Materia to Sephiroth, the originalFinal Fantasy 7had the party pretty quickly forgive him. He may have been controlled by the Jenova cells inserted into his body, but he still caused untold catastrophe for the planet and its people. By that point in the game, Cloud’s relationship with the party is fairly solid;Rebirth’s take on the party bond has gone down a different route.

By the end ofRebirth, there is an unease looming within the character’s relationships and the bond between Cloud and the rest appears strained. Cloud has also been more severely affected by Sephiroth’s manipulations, at times becoming a danger to his friends. If Cloud were to do anything as drastic as be the cause of Meteor’s arrival, even if it was out of his control, his friends' trust has waned enough inRebirthto be shattered inPart 3. It will not only be a fight to save the planet, buta fight to regain the trust Cloud once had.

7Hojo’s Grand Design Comes to Fruition

The Reunion Is Hojo’s Brainchild

Hojo’s Reunion Theory isthe catalyst for the story ofFinal Fantasy 7.His research into Jenova led to the creation of Sephiroth, the Jenova cells implanting experiments, and the collection of Sephiroth clones heading to the Whirlwind Maze. In the original, his motivations are ambiguous, ranging from a desire for ultimate power to just wanting to see what happens. He fits into the mad scientist trope perfectly.RebirthHojo seems to be following the same pathway, butPart 3could utilize him even more.

FF7 Rebirth Glitch Proves One Missing Feature Needs To Be In FF7 Remake Part 3

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth isn’t short on features, but a glitch shows how one that didn’t make the cut could be a nice addition to FF7 Remake Part 3.

While Sephiroth is off meddling with the multiverse, there is a vacant seat at the table for an evil villain to become the body for Jenova’s return. Sephiroth learns from the original that he cannot overcome Cloud should he fully accept Jenova. Hojo has not had that lesson; if the reunion requires a new vessel for the apocalypse, who is better than the greatest mind on Gaia? Sephiroth is aiming higher and Hojo still wishes to see what will happen should the reunion succeed. With no super-soldier to steal his thunder, the throne of the planet is up for grabs.

6Rufus Shinra’s Success In The Struggle For the Huge Materia

The Shinra Electric Company Designs The Greatest Weapon

A major difference between the original and theRemakeis thecompetency of the Shinra Corporation.RebirthShinra has displayed fewer blunders and absolute failures, posing as a far larger threat to Cloud and his friends, as well as the world in general. Their tyrannical control is cemented and Rufus Shinra’s agenda to spread his influence feels like a genuine threat, rather than being more of the original’s absent second thought. If some of the original is still being followed inPart 3, there is a major plot thread in which Rufus could become an even bigger problem.

The Huge Materia hunt is a direct conflict between Cloud and Shinra, each wanting to the materia for their own means but with the same end - stop Meteor. At the end ofRebirth, Cloud and company seem shakier than ever, while Rufus and the Shinra Company seem like a strong, semi-united front. There is no better twist forPart 3that involves Rufus than his success in creating a weapon that can match Meteor andbecoming the villain he was born to be, rather than being taken out by an unfortunately placed WEAPON beam.

5Sephiroth’s Culling Of Aerith

The Multiverse Hunt For His Biggest Threat

If one thing became clear inRebirth, it was thatAerith Gainsborough was destined to die. Even with Cloud’s supposed intervention against Sephiroth’s plummeting Masamune, she was still pierced and succumbed to her injuries. Players of the original suspected a twist to her survival, considering Aerith’s multiverse perception and connection to the timeline may have allowed her to prepare for Sephiroth’s attack. In the original, Aerith still predicted her death, andRebirthwas no different.

Aerith’s death may be a result of Sephiroth’s final plan. Original Aerith attempted to summon Holy to protect the planet, so Sephiroth needed to stop her. Since Spirit Aerith is meddling with the characters in the multiverse, Sephiroth seems to be tracking all of her different variations, as shown when he enters the church in Sector 5.Aerith is being portrayed as the biggest threat to Sephiroth’s schemes, unlike Cloud, who appears to be a tool to enact them. A twist for the player is the fact that each Aerith is dying, but only one needs to survive to protect the timelines.

4Cloud Is Responsible For The Worst Death

His Lack Of Comprehension Shields His Guilt

There are two strange occurrences inRebirthduring Aerith’s death: the player and rest of the party did not witness Sephiroth’s blade striking her, and Cloud seems to be unable to accept that she is gone. Her presence as a spirit at the end of te game could be considered in two ways - she is living on with her own consciousness within the lifestream, which would explain why Red XIII seems to sense her, or she is a fragment of Cloud’s already deteriorating mind. If Cloud did the deed himself,it makes sense he can not accept she is really gone.

10 Final Fantasy Summons FF7 Remake Part 3 Must Include

Anticipation is growing for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, which can add new summons that bring fresh strategies and stunning visuals to the game.

Cloud has been shown throughoutReirthto be easily controlled by the Jenova cells, lacking even more self-restraint than the original did. He almost killed Elena, Tifa and Aerith. Without actually witnessing Aerith’s death, it is possible that Sephiroth used his manipulation techniques to have Cloud do the deed for him. Cloud’s inability to move forward could be a representation of his overwhelming guilt. It would be a dark turn for the game to take, but that kind of twist would shift Cloud’s narrative. His label of hero is already questionable; this could strip it completely.

3Tifa Chooses Her Responsibilities Over Cloud

There Are People Who Still Rely On Her

A pivotal point in the originalFinal Fantasy 7is when Cloud is lost to the lifestream and found again in a vegetative state in Mideel.Rebirthhas yet to visitmany iconicFF7locations, setting up Mideel as one of the major plot locations inPart 3. When Cloud was in his worst state in the game, Tifa Lockhart stood by his side and cared for him, leaving the rest of the party to hunt for the Huge Materia. Their bond was stronger than ever, even if not long before Cloud had given Sephiroth the Black Materia that began the countdown to the end of the world. By the end ofRebirth,Tifa and Cloud are not as close.

As Tifa drifted through the lifestream, she saw multiple visions of people in her past. Doctor Sheiran is shown telling Tifa that “Too many still depend on you,” which could beforeshadowing Tifa’s role inPart 3.In the original, she left the party and remained in Mideel to care for an unwell Cloud; a twist inPart 3could see her deciding thather responsibility to save the planet comes before her friendsand she must step up to save everyone. With such a different dynamic between Cloud and Tifa inRebirth, her love for him may be secondary to her foreshadowed duty.

2The Turks Change Sides

A New Party Member For The Crew

The Turks have been a continuous thorn in the side of Cloud and the party throughout bothRemakeandRebirth. They act as the unrepentant arm of evil, performing actions for an evil corporation while wearing the disguise of professionalism.Rebirthshowcased the Turks as boss fights such a huge number of times, if they were to repeat the same beat inPart 3, it could become rather repetitive. There are only so many times a player can wipe Reno’s smirk off his facebefore it becomes dull.

Final Fantasy 7: 10 Best Quotes From Tifa

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Tifa Lockhart is the heart and soul of Cloud’s party and her various insights and comments are always fun or meaningful.

The greatest twist inPart 3regarding Shinra would see the Turks reconsider their allegiances. Rufus is looking for all-out war, the planet is on the verge of destruction - what value is a paycheck when the world is ending? If Barret and Tifa can see past the dropping of the Sector 7 plate - which, surprisingly, they do not seem all too furious about inRebirth- there is an opportunity to have the Turks switch sides in the hope of keeping the world from being destroyed. ConsideringRemakechanged Reno to Rude as the one who pressed the button to drop the plate, the animosity towards the former could be reduced, even giving him the option to join the main party.

1Zack Is The Hero Final Fantasy 7 Deserves

Only He Can Fix The Timeline And Save Aerith

An obvious difference between Cloud and Zack is that the former is driven by Jenova and the latter is driven by his heart. Zack proves time and time again that the decisions he makes are for others, constantly putting himself in harm’s way and suffering because of it. Cloud has yet a chance to prove his heroic nature, as his decisions are primarily based on ensuring he can attend the reunion. This leads to Aerith’s death in every timeline.

Zack’s role is yet to be fully understoodinRebirth, but one of the Zacks is saved by Aerith.Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3will certainly explain his purpose within the overall narrative andthis could be as the hero the world actually needs. Like Aerith, Zack seems destined to die before the beginning of the main game, setting off a domino effect which eventually leads to Cloud giving Sephiroth the Black Materia. Zack is clearly vital to stopping Sephiroth for the final time. Zack is the destined hero to finally put an end to Sephiroth’s cycle of destruction. He was supposed to be the story’s hero but died for Cloud to take his place. Now, he has returned.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake and will see Cloud and his friends set off beyond the walls of Midgar to explore the world, stop Sephiroth’s machinations, and see the world outside their slum prison. Now that the whispers of fate no longer guide the characters along the pre-destined path set in the original PlayStation classic Final Fantasy 7, the heroes (and villains) will shape the future. The game will still visit prominent locales and revisit crucial story points, but it will be a more significant departure from the first game from the source material.
