Baldur’s Gate 3has a massive list of fights and bosses that can provide interesting and memorable challenges throughout the game. That being said, due to there being so many fights out in the world, there’s a good chance players will miss a good number of them, especially if they’re not very adventurous.

Some fights inBaldur’s Gate 3are quite intentional and even provide plenty of context to the fights prior, such as most fights incompanions' personal quests, which lead the player to a set location. However, some fights are purely based on character decisions or places they choose to explore in their free time, which makes it hard to do everything inBaldur’s Gate 3, especially in a first playthrough of the game.

10Last Light Inn Provides A Surprising Fight Upon Failure

The Inn That Fell To The Shadows

In Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3, one of the first major locations players will venture to is the location known as Last Light Inn. This place is the main hub of Act 2, and the party will meet a ton of potential future characters as well as old characters from Act 1 if you opt to save the tieflings. This location also has an extremely important character known as Isobel, who not only grants the player a buff to help venture through the Shadow Cursed Lands but also protects the Last Light Inn.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Should You Save Isobel Or Side With Marcus At The Last Light Inn?

The Last Light Inn presents a major Baldur’s Gate 3 choice, but between helping Isobel and Marcus, one option has far more advantages than the other.

Unfortunately, the story causes Isobel to be attacked, and normally the player would defeat Marcus and save her. However, if the player is an evil dark urge (or evil in general), they can kill her intentionally, which causes her body to be kidnapped and the barrier over Last Light Inn to be dropped. This causes a new fight to happen, as everyone in Last Light Inn outside Jaheira will become shadow-cursed zombies, trapping the player and their party at the building exit.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Half-Elf Bard Player Facing Off Against Grym The Adamantine Golem In Adamantine Forge

At launch, Isobel was particularly prone to falling in battle even when attempting to rescue her, so stumbling into this fight by accident was more common for a while. After some patches, it provides a unique and extremely hard fight that players typically miss. The fight against Marcus isn’t that hard, so this fight itself provides one of the harshest potential challenges in Act 2.

9Grym Is An Easy-To-Miss Hidden Boss

The Guardian Of The Adamantine Forge Requires Exploration

Deep within the Underdark in Act 1 lies a forge that’s easy to miss, and it’s also easy to ignore the fight there if you do find it. While there are quests and hints leading to the forge,it’s out of the wayfrom exploring the primary areas of the Underdark, and the fight in the forge might also feel too challenging when you first come upon it.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Beat Grym (Adamantine Forge Boss)

To forge Adamantine gear in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must defeat Grym first. However, you can use certain tricks to tip the odds in the party’s favor.

The Adamantine Forgecan be found within the city of Grymforge by exploring the area where the party will typically find Nere. Entering the forge and trying to craft adamantine equipment will initiate a boss fight with the protector of the forge, Grym. This is an incredibly difficult hidden boss that can even wipe out your party quickly if you don’t properly prepare for his spawning. He also hasunique mechanics, such as him only taking damage when he’s Superheated, which happens whenever he walks over lava.

Despite the intimidation factor, fighting Grym is quite worth it. Not only can you forge adamantine equipment, but Grym has pretty great loot himself. The arena also has some tricks that you can take advantage of, so it isn’t as difficult as it might first appear.

8The Owlbear Fight Is Quite Hard To Find

The Owlbear Cave Is Well-Hidden

The Owlbear Cave is a pretty well-hidden location in the forests of Act 1 that some players might not ever notice, and even if you do go there, you might not engage in combat. By entering the cave, you’ll beprompted to fight the Owlbear Mother and her cub, which is quite a well-made fight. In Honour Mode, the mother summons her mate to assist her, making for an even more memorable encounter that’s even easier to miss.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Get The Owlbear Cub

After defeating a dangerous Owlbear in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can get the cub of this strange creature as a companion that travels with your character.

One of the main purposes of doing this fight is that it’s one of the ways to potentially get an owl bear cub as a pet in your camp, although pulling this off takes a few more choices after the fact. This owl bear can also assist you in the final fight as a summonable ally, and quite a powerful one at that, ashe comes in his fully grown form ready to devastate the battlefield. You’ll also need to fight the mother to get a piece of a broken spear that forms half of theVision Of The Absolute.

7The Githyanki Crèche is One Massive Struggle

The Crèche Located Deep Within The Mountains

Due to howBaldur’s Gate 3story works, many players will choose either to go to the Underdark or the Mountain Pass and rarely explore both in a single playthrough. As the Underdark tends to be the more popular option, most players will typically miss the experience of the Githyanki Crèche, which hastons of interesting boss fights and loot, including a potential legendary weapon.

Baldur’s Gate 3: You Shouldn’t Skip The Githyanki Crèche Questline

The Githyanki Crèche questline in Baldur’s Gate 3 is part of Lae’zel’s companion quest, but it offers plenty of information to discover.

While players can explore themajority of the crèche relatively peacefully, there are certain places within where the players will always have to get ready for a fight. The two major locations are the fights leading to the legendary weapon known as Blood of Lathandar and the boss to end the crèche storyline, Inquisitor W’wargaz. These fights provide quite a challenge but have great rewards, helping to make the crèche worth the adventure.

6The Devil’s Fee Has A Surprisingly Strong Defender

Helsik And Her Golden Minions.

As players explore the lower city in Act 3, they’ll potentially discover a building known as the Devil’s Fee, especially if they’ve been talking to Raphael. This is the major location where you’ll be able to enter The House of Hope, which is whereyou’ll find Raphael, your contract (if you signed one), and the Orpheic Hammer (if you weren’t given it).

To get to this location, you’ll have to get through Helsik, who at first will need to be bribed to enter to summon the portal to the House of Hope. You’ll need to bribe her either with 20,000 or promise her theGauntlets of Hill Giant Strength, both of which are quite costly. You can opt to fight her, but she’s actually quite a challenging fight. She’ll summon her gilded imps and minotaurs to her aid, making her a difficult but fun encounter.

5The Druids Of The Grove Will Quickly Turn On You

Druids Versus The Tieflings

One of the places the party will quickly visit in Act 1 is the Druid’s Grove, as it acts as the main hub and questing location within Act 1. That being said, the obvious conflict between the druids and the tieflings is a main point of contention, which is normally solved by attacking the goblin camp or exposing Kargha, but there is an alternative that most parties are less likely to explore.

While this is an alternate method to protecting the tieflings, it should be known that certain key NPCs, such as Damon, are at risk in this fight as the druids will aim for him.

After Stealing the Idol of Silvanus or attacking one of the druids, a cutscene will happen where the druids will start attacking the tieflings. This starts a rather unique fight wherethe party must actively take down all the druids alongside the tieflings while protecting as many tieflings as possible. Succeeding in this fight acts as a way to protect the tieflings, and they’ll leave the grove soon after. It’s not the optimal path, but trying to keep as many tieflings alive as you’re able to makes for a memorable encounter.

4The Phase Spider Matriarch Protects A Key Item

The Spider Underneath Act 1

Deep Underground withinAct 1’s Blighted Village, lies the Phase Spider Matriarch, who’s a fairly difficult boss, especially for newer players who don’t know how to deal with her webs. She and her spiderlings constantly phase around and threaten the player from different angles. While theboss doesn’t drop loot herself when killed, she is protecting an essential item for another book, known as the Necromancy of Thay.

The Necromancy of Thay is a mysterious item that can be found in a basement of the blighted village. Getting the dark amethyst located within The Phase Spider Matriarch’s cave will allow you to open and activate the book. By passing checks and reading the Tharchiate Codex in Act 3,you’ll gain a powerful summoning ability that will be very useful in end-game fights.

3The Thorm Siblings Each Provide Unique Loot And Fights

The Children Of Ketheric Thorm

In the Shadow Cursed lands of Act 2 lie three different bosses at three different locations, and you’re likely to avoid a direct conflict with at least one of the three in the average playthrough. They all have deep ties with the main antagonist of the Act, Ketheric Thorm.Malus, Thisobald, and Gerringothe are the three children of Ketheric Thorm you can fight in this act. All three are quite challenging, but can also be defeated via alternate means.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Beat Gerringothe Thorm Without Fighting

Instead of picking a fight with Gerringothe Thorm, you can beat the boss without fighting in Baldur’s Gate 3. Here’s how to make her finish herself.

Malus and Thisobald can be easily beaten by passing speech checks on them and saying the right thing, while Gerringothe can simply be deterred by using gold (though this requires a large amount). However, choosing to fight these bosses instead can make Act 2 into an interesting gauntlet. They all contain relatively decent loot, andupon their defeat, you can find additional loot in the houses they lie within.

2The Legendary Dragon Protects Legendary Loot

Assisting The Emperor With Ansur

Act 3 has many potential locations that you might not stumble across, but one of the easiest to miss is the boss known as Ansur. Not only does the partyneed to find the passageway within the castle, but it also needs to complete a set number of challenges.

The fight with Ansur is completely worth it, especially if your team has a melee fighter who uses great swords, asthe reward for killing Ansur is a legendary great sword and the legendaryHelm of Balduran. While Ansur is an extremely challenging fight, the loot alone makes it worth facing this adversary. This is incredibly risky on Honour Mode, however, as he has many abilities to quickly take out unprepared teams.

1Raphael Is Well-known But Usually Goes Unfought

Escaping The House Of Hope

In a typical playthrough ofBaldur’s Gate 3,the party will meet Raphael very early on, as he approaches the player character quite early into Act 1. You’ll then see him consistently throughout the game. However, you can’t actively challenge him until Act 3 when the party is able to go into his House of Hope. He will meet you when you try to exit after stealing the hammer and trying to save Hope.

Should You Side With Raphael In Baldur’s Gate 3?

Raphael is a little suspicious from the start of Baldur’s Gate 3, but he makes big promises. Here are the pros and cons of taking his deal.

Raphael is possibly one of the hardest bosses inBaldur’s Gate 3, so it’s common to avoid the fight simply to make Act 3 easier. However, he and his House of Hope contains amazing loot for all those willing to take his challenge. Choosing to rescue Hope makes the fight with Raphael easier. This isn’t a requirement, but her healing and utility would be of great service in this conflict. Actions in previous Acts can also influence the difficulty of the fight or even provide you with a new ally depending on your confrontation with Yurgir.
